Hey all, wonder if anyone has had an experience of getting to Tarbes/Pau? Flights are very expensive…£250! Few of us going to watch the tour that’s all..

    thanks in advance

Easyjet to Toulouse? But if it’s for the Tour then it’s no surprise stuff’s booked up in advance to be fair.

If there’s a few of you, driving is economical

You can go via train to Tarbes

Train it, if you’re only going to watch Le Tour and have no significant luggage then it’s ideal.

    Flight into Biarritz with Ryanair?

If you’re just going for a couple of days – that stage is Bastille day weekend isn’t it?

Trains may be a bit dearer than going earlier and coming back later
Choose 1st class for the French leg as it’s usually on a few quid more

Cheers all, will do some further searching based on your suggestions. We’ll be staying with relatives in Pau so probably be there for a week

Serious suggestion – check out pilgrimage charters to Lourdes.

    Pau/Lourdes/Tarbes is the same airport.

You can get direct TGV from Paris to Pau or Tarbes, so get the cheapest flight you can find to Paris, then train down (or Eurostar across if you’re in the south-east).

Whatever you do, don’t visit Tarbes. A carbuncle of a place.

Oh, and further to above suggestion, Biaritz is a pain to get to/from by train (takes about 4hrs) but Toulouse/Carcassonne aren’t bad.

If your family can come pick you up, Biaritz is only about 1h – 1h30 drive.

Pau is on the same train line as Tarbes, just a couple of stops away, so trains for one place should be same as the other.

(Lived in Tarbes for a year BTW).

Steve…thanks. Just look up train prices, Euro star Paris return for £60odd…and the TGV for £50 return! Baargain
