Gash is Conti 5000 sidewall – repair or leave alone?

Looks like it’s on the border of needing fixing, but there’s no tube coming out either. Caused a tiny puncture (if I had been running tubeless I probably would have flatted too?).

Leave alone or repair somehow?

Mine seem fine after today’s offroad jaunt (although they are 28mm TL)

I’ve had similar with a pair of gp4000s2. I know it’s a race tyre but I can’t believe they are so highly regarded for such a fragile tyre. I’ll be trying another brand next time. Puncture repair patch on the inside and superglue in the gap?

I’d keep riding that and keeping an eye on it.

True. So superglue in the crack plus a patch on the inside, ordered a £2.5 Park tool TB-2 Emergency Tire Boot for the inside, will cut it to size.

@simondbarnes avoid rocks at all cost :S

I had what looks like exactly the same damage on my GP5000TL. I super glued the outside and patched the inside.

How does superglue work? It’s solid not at all supple so surly cracks with any movement ie using the tyre

If you do glue it/mend it/continue to ride it, make sure it’s on the back. A front blowout at speed might be more expensive than a new tyre…

Some people report superglue hardening and puncturing the tire, so either way you probably want an interior patch.

Use shoe glue / seam sealant, takes 24 hrs to set but stays flexible.

Yeah seems like a nice product, don’t think regular patches are that good for sidewall tears as they’re too elastic.

How does superglue work?

When I’ve used it in the past it just seems to help stop other shit getting in there and causing another puncture
