[Closed] Front light ( i know) halfords, lifeline or exposure

Need a new front light mainly for riding on road (unlit) and gravel had it narrowed down to
Halfords 1600 lumen £60
Lifeline pavo 2000 £80 i think

but now seen a Exposure Strada MK10 Road Sport for £240 (1200L)

are the more powerful ones going to provide more light when needed for the gravel descents or will the exposure have a much better usable beam?

any other suggestions welcome do not want a seperate battery pack.

thanks

Have a look at the Exposure website for their clearance stock.
All of the exposure stuff I have had has outlasted all of the other lights mares have had.
Buy cheap, buy twice.

My Halfords as above has been fine. Perfect for road speeds gravel etc. Possibly you'll get a better quality with Exposure but You could buy 4 Halfords for the price which will be a hell of a lot more effective. Can't comment on life mine is only on its 3rd winter of daily commuting so only about 2 hours a day as I switch it off when it isn't needed.
My feeling is that the Exposures are nice (my old one was) but not as good as the price might suggest. Got the bragging rights of course!

Alpkit have mk10 Strada's for £139.99...so i'd definitely go Exposure at that price

Keep an eye on wiggles clearance, they regularly do Exposure lights going about 2/3 of new price(auction)

I've had the Halfords one for what must be around 4 years now and it's still works perfectly, its got a wide beam with no hot spots so works very well as a bar light and lasts for hours even on high. The only downside is it has too many modes that you have to cycle through but for the price I can't complain

Recently got given the halfords one mentioned as a gift. A month or two in, more than happy with it as a bar light for reasons above. Fine off road, and unlit roads up to 40mph (is - not been faster than that) tend to rarely use top setting for anything, beam spread is decent but if going faster I find it best to have a helmet light as well to pick out detail when needed. I wouldn't like as a helmet mount due to size/weight.

I have the halfords one, pretty good for the price (i paid about £35)
I also have an exposure six pack, literally 11 times the price.
The six pack is definitely better, but not 11 times better.
You pays your money and makes your choice.

I've had the Halfords for a couple of years. The light is OK, but peripheral stuff like the bung over the charger port going missing, it's unbalanced design which means I've never found a truly satisfactory mount for it, (I've spent enough on trying to remedy this to have just bought a better light I reckon) and the poorly made charger socket which is oval so you can't easily spot which way the plug goes in would put me off replacing it with another one.

At the £140 I'd be getting the Strada, twice the price of the others and pretty sure I'd say worth it.

Just to counter the issues with the Halfords light, buy an alloy GoPro handlebar mount off eBay for <£5 and my charger port bung is attached so can't go missing. And the charging port is micro USB so you have 50% chance of getting it right within looking

I recently bought an exposure strada sb for best part of 250 quid and imo it’s really not money we’ll spent

Run time nowhere near advertised, not that bright, and the remote is cabled making it a pain to switch between bikes

+1 for the Halfords light had around 18 months and hasn't missed a beat. Also got one of those £5 handlebar mounts which work great although I'm pretty sure hope do a better mount for around £11.

I bought the Halfords Advanced 1600 I think. I also think you get a lifetime warranty the same as their tools,  as it's the Advanced kit.

Cheers @dc1988 for your suggestions, but

I've tried an alloy GoPro mount. Currently the best option I've found, but the smooth alloy doesn't grip the plastic bracket enough because the light is so front heavy. I'm going to try filing a few cross-hatches in it, more time dicking about fixing poor design!

My bung was attached, but the captive rubber strap was short, so it broke when trying to get the charger in, then got lost.

Finally, I don't want to risk jamming the plug in the socket wrong. Because it's badly made, I don't trust it to be at all robust and break. Although I suppose if it did I'd have good reason to get shut of it!

I'm pleased yours is good, but OP asked for user opinion, these are mine with the hindsight of a couple of years use.

I had one on the bars (now on a Magicshine RN3000) and have one on the helmet (though mine are Evolva X8 - exactly the same - mine have a tripod screw underneath, and I think these do)

These go from the light to gopro mount

This on the bars for the bar light (note - it's 31.8mm, so if bars are over-oversize, i.e. 35mm you'll need something else)

Fwiw, the RN3000 pisses all over the X8, and that's pretty good to start with. It's also at least twice the price, but worth it as it's nearly twice the power.
