Ferrum bikes, what do we know?

Not much info to find, so as it’s a steel thing, I thought I’d ask on here.

Specifically the NV-170 I guess, but generally too.

Check the Steel is Real Insta and Facebook groups, they’ve had a few through there.

Dunno really buddy…. just came up as a possible plan i’m weighing up at the moment and wanted a bit more info.. I thought it looked kinda cool.

looks very similar to 95% of steel bikes… single pivot design.

Squint slightly and that could be a Starling, Merino, Morph etc.

Probably rides well, as many of them do. My mate has a Large stainless steel Starling Murmur if you are after a boat anchor to ride around on 😀

Looks about as heavy as, well, who the hell knows? You would feel the weight in the wheels before anything else.

I have a potential option on a Torque at the moment. But i must admit it’s part of some complete and utter bonkers trading where the blue GT Fury gets swapped for a Torque, then the Trek Fuel 9.8 gets swapped for a later model GT Fury for the lad as a spare bike… He’ll then have 2 GT Furys, both identical, i’ll have the Canyon Torque.

the only real thing putting me off this plan is “would the torque actually be any better for what i want/need” and the answer of course is “heck i don’t know”

Both of the above i’ve taken care of, i’m riding more and coaching is booked and planned. The Fuel is arguably the best bike i could afford for the potential riding and races planned for next year … maybe.. lol. But that’s a whole kettle of crazy right there.

That fuel pretty fast up and down though. I think you will miss it.

Just wanted to revive this thread by jumping in and saying how stoked I am with my Ferrum. I got their newer LVN 160 frame which is a little more progressive than the standard single pivot frame. Mine is bit of a chonker at 39 lbs, but its got a lot of heavier downhill components. The frame was less than half the price of a Starling but rides incredibly well and feels like it will last a lifetime. Already watched it roll down a hill and I didn’t even wince, which is the opposite of the reaction I had when seeing my carbon frames go tumbling down ha.

Also, I dont really notice the weight on the climbs because it is a very efficient climber. I am comparing it to my Stumpjumper Evo, which is a horst link set up and not an amazing climber to begin with but it still did the job and I feel this Ferrum does MUCH better uphill. The rear wheel occasionally gets hung up on big rocks when rolling down hill at speed and tapping the break a bit but other than that it is amazing descender! Overall, I dont think you can get any better of a bike at the prices he is charging. You cant go wrong with Ferrum.
