Moved in some months ago, previous owner simply pointed at the meter and said that’s it.

It’s been a very slow process getting SSE to accept me as the new owner but that’s now sorted. Sent my first meter reading back and they said it’s all wrong. Any guidance on how to read the meter(s)?

It’s SSE. In the cupboard are two meters, no idea which one is the electricty meter and which one is the feed in meter, they both look pretty similar to me. Both are digital and both have multiple readouts that I can cycle through. There’s also a meter on the inverter in the attaic, no idea if that’s needed.

    Any ideas? ta.

At a guess, the electricity meter will keep going up at night time!

I’ve done a few installs of these, IME the meter with the heavy duty cables going into it will be the SSE mains one and the one with the smaller cables will be the solar PV meter.
From your SSE main cutout/fuse the cables should go into the meter then from there to an isolator switch then into your distribution board.
They should only need the Kwh readings from both of the meters.

My two meters look almost identical, it’s the one on the right Jon 🙂

Just got back to this, thanks.

Steve, the meters are above one another. 😉

The top meter (which I’m almost certain is the generation meter – it has a red light which comes on at night), has three readings, usefully set as 0,1 and 2 with the sum of 1 and 2 equalling the 0 figure.

The bottom meter has a t and r reading.

Still no idea which ones the company wants so I’ve sent them all.

Looking at my generation meter doesn’t much help – it’s only got one reading, and it has GENERATION METER written on it. But if you read everything at 7pm, see which one has moved by 10pm and the generation meter is the other one.

Look on your bill for the meter serial number, this will also be on your meter face somewhere. The serial number that appears on the supplier invoice is your import meter. The other one is the export meter.

Post a photo and I’ll tell you which is which.

Alternatively, start at the inverter, and follow the cable back to the fuse board – the PV meter will be between the inverter and the fusboard.

Also, if you googled ‘PV system schematic’ they all show this arrangement so you should see one that makes sense.

    YAY! Finally got it sorted.

It’s the 0 reading on the gen meter which is the one with the red light on at night.

    £345 for 4 months. Awesome!
