    Does anyone know if Avid Elixir 1 brakes take the standard Avid Elixir pad?

    Pads are the same, but the Elixir 1s use a cotter pin to retain the pad. Other Elixirs use a special bolt and circlip. Both systems come with Avid brand replacement pads.

    I tapped my Elixir 1s to use the bolt like the others.

    It’s a split pin, a cotter pin is tapered and was used to hold cranks on the more traditional sit up and beg bikes.

    (Oh help, I’m turning into the sprocket and cog man)

    Have seen a few odd oe fitments that had a lever saying elixir but Useing the older juicy caliper
    But if the caliper says elixir then you should be fine
    Looking a few online pics of the pads will confirm what you have

    Odd you should mention cotter pins I’ve spent a big chunk of my afternoon trying to remove one

    benji – I’m American, so I call it a cotter pin. Ask for a split pin over here, and no one will know what you’re talking about.

    I didn’t even realize that there was another term used at all till I looked on wikipedia…
