Anyone got one and use it with Zwift? Is it any good? Claims to be fully interactive, but so did my Tacx Flow and that didn't work properly, reporting speeds of 50MPH+...
Can’t help, but this is on my radar too.
Recently bought a cheapo 2nd hand Tacx ‘dumb’ trainer off eBay. Currently weighing up speed/cadence sensors so I can swift but pissed off I didn’t go the ‘smart’ route first time round.
The reviews on the Novo read quite well.
Yeah, it works. Sometimes get a bit of wheel slippage and a direct drive would be quieter but it does the job.
You may want to get a separate cadence sensor.
Was the 50mph Zwift speed rather than wheel speed?
I've got both the Elite Novo and Tacx Flow wired up to Zwift, I'd say the Novo feels more like being on the road both up and down hill but I recall I had difficulty getting it to work Bluetooth so connected via Garmin ANT+.
The Flow you can feel step changes in resistance, the resistance doesn't seem to go as high as Elite either even though they are supposedly similar on paper.
I think the Flow is better made or better designed at least, the Novo looks thrown together by comparison which I believe it is specially for Halfords. My first Novo failed just within 2 years and Halfords warrantied it no problem.
Oh and Novo doesn't come with wheel block I use a Tacx one. Elite can also supply a thru axle adapter which works fine too.
Overall I prefer the Novo but happy enough with the Flow which I picked up half price.
I've had one since end of last year.
Done about 1000km on Zwift. No complaints so far. It seems fairly accurate, connects everytime using bluetooth to my iPad and hasn't broken yet.
I'm only 75kg though. Not sure how robust it would be for a bigger guy as lots of plastic.
Bit squeaky but doesn't slip using a dedicated turbo tyre (halfords own brand).
I got mine on special for about £160 and at the time it was the best spec for the money.
Happy with it if it lasts
Anyone use this trainer with a mountain bike as they have lower gearing so am curious as to whether you can still reach the same power?
I've had one since last winter, I'm happy with it, but calibration is nigh on impossible without a powermeter, there is no spin-down calibration like with Tacx trainers, so numbers may be off, and it relies on you using similar tyre pressure and pre-load to have consistant readings between sessions. Not that its been a problem for me so far. I've only used it with 700c wheels. Connects reliably with ANT+ dongle on a usb extension.
ETA: just remembered I also stick a bit of carpet under one side else it feels like it is leaning over... so build quality not amazing
I've got one... used it for a few months just 'on it's own' with Zwift...
The power factory settings were pretty accurate.
I recently got a crank PM fitted, so just use the smart turbo for its variable resistance..
In this sense, it doesn't matter WHAT tyre or pressure I use - the crank power is the crank power....
I've had no issues with it, and was cheap enough (with NHS discount) that the turbo AND a power meter were about £300...
