I think what I want is more like an east end sisters jeans bike with flat bars and gears. What’s that?

If that’s what you want, then buy an old road frame with sliding dropouts for abou £30 and build it up yourself.

Pompino, Kaffenback, Roadrat, Boardman or just trawl through the bikes till you find what you want

Yeah, there are plenty of folks on ebay jumping on the bandwagon selling clapped out old road frames, resprayed and fitted with new tyres and super narrow bars – not cheap though (I think the ebay bubble has definitely burst – I’ve been searching myself but anything with ‘fixie’ in the title fetches ridiculous prices). Just search for ‘fixie’ (or ‘fixtie’ – what’s that all about?). See?

No, not fixed, I’ll need some gears (at least to start with)
