That’s the real issue here, it’s one thing to keep kids safe and another to limit thier freedom.

Be tricky to balance this one, I’m glad I’m not a parent.

I am quite the Prude myself, I’ve never made any claim that I’m not. I am however very liberal in my outlook and approach to social issues such as these.

I do believe in keeping kids safe however. This is a true belief of mine, and as such whilst I see initiatives like this as encouraging on a social level I also see it as a sticking plaster covering up something deeper and more sore.

I don’t have any answers to the issues children face these days, but restricting them from accessing porn isn’t on top of the list. There are plenty of fabulous, keen, intelligent and bright kids out there that are able to make their own decisions about how they live thier lives.. it is the coerced, the manipulative and the cruel that I hope this piece of legislation helps.

A government that passes the responsibility to contain and restrict the access to an organisation that, seems of the face of it, controls networks and shares data privacy and distributes porn just underpins what an inept government we have at present. I call on them to make clear thier rationale for choosing such an organisation.

I do believe that Britain has lost a lot of “nature by nurturing” and it will be played out in the 10-15yr old generations how they feel about such laws being made/passed that encroach on thier lives. Parents, I wish you well in your endeavours, I really don’t know whether it was any different when I was growing up to what it’s like now.. but I’d like to think there is more information and places to seek affirmations should kids wish to seek that out.

I’ve little interest in porn and not a fan of the “slippery slope” fallacy generally, but this was my first thought. The government implements the technology under a popular “won’t someone think of the children” pretence, before we know it it’s the Great Firewall of China again.

Particularly since Theresa May has form in this area. As Home Secretary she was gung ho for full-on recording of everyone’s internet activity “for safety”. Now it’s the same objective, but under a new sales pitch

How is this any different to censoring films or tv programmes.?

What the state would like are adults expressing their sexuality exclusively within marriage for the sole purpose of reproducing the labour force.

To the state, porn, like ideas about free-energy and hemp cultivation is the enemy.

Just because it offers an alternative.

They only legalised hardcore porn because we were in the eu.

this legislation seems like the thin end of the wedge.

Sometime soon the media will get everyone hysterical about the ‘dangers’ of hardcore porn as a means to outlaw it, resulting in a huge increase in prostate cancer rates, sexual assault, general misery, etc.

On the plus side, it will mean that my local MP actually does some work for a change.

Do you have to give your name and address to watch a film?

Last time I checked I didn’t have to prove my age to watch a film or TV show in my own home. The responsibility for such things lies partly with the broadcaster based on the time of the transmission (although with PVRs these day’s that control is much less that is once was) and partly with the parents.

    Very much my thoughts too.

I’m pretty sure I read that they want to change the law so that only material that complies with UK law can be accessed from within the UK.

So aside from sitting and moaning, what are you all intending on doing about it?

I live in a country in the Middle East where all online pornography is banned across the board.

    People just use VPNs.

The one upshot of this however is that it puts a barrier in place for chidlren freely accessing porn, which is a good thing.

It seems beyond naive to think this is going to stop 15-17 yr old kids

Indeed. 17-year old me would’ve found it hilarious.

Indeed. If my 45 yr old friend can spoof Netflix into thinking he’s in the States then 16 year old him (who’s been raised in an IT literate world) is hardly going to find this sort of thing an issue is he? Apparently his ISP blocked access to some dodgy Bay site a while ago and his access was impeded for about 30 seconds. Someone out there has already started working on an easy work around for those with limited tech knowledge. I understand the motivation but it’s a massive waste of time and, I’m sure, money.

Perhaps its a cunning way of trying to address the shortage of software security specialists. Get them interested young in how to bypass controls.

Although admittedly the way it seems to be done is so crap it fails even at that.

afaik, male ejaculate is pure protein, so having it swishing around your prostate is like plastering your tomato plants with baby bio.

while you may welcome some nice tomatoes in your salad, come summer, you don’t want your prostate throttling your urethra every time you get in your bikes saddle.

In the same way that prohibition led to people drinking dodgy booze and the illegality of cannabis leads kids to buying from dealers who’ll happily sell them anything else they fancy, this cannot be a good move. VPN usage will rise, which is probably a good thing, but some will probably use TOR and dark web sites, which is probably less than ideal. Never mind the HUGE risk of data breaches.

On the other hand, maybe a huge data breach that reveals that 95% of the UK watch porn would be a good thing. Lead everyone to stop being so prudish about it and lead to sensible conversations rather than knee jerk reactions.

The browser I use has an invisible (to me) VPN, it just works on it’s own, one day I might be hailing from Norway, the next, bangalore. And there are add ons that can spoof your IP to a country of your choosing.

It’s just a pointless activity, a bit like when they ‘blocked’ the pirate bay, they blocked the URL but you could simply type the ip address in, and hey presto.

doesn’t it also have 1/3rd of your RDA or zinc, so if you shoot off often then you run the risk of becoming depressed?

Seems BBFC forgot to create any rules, so now postponed to end of the year

So, frequent ejaculation is correlated with a twenty percent reduction in prostate cancer rates.

but ejaculation may lead to a loss of zinc, etc.

thats a quandary worthy of ‘south park ‘.

Anyway, there must be some way to distribute genuine, verified proof of age identification, for purchasing alcohol, etc while still maintaining anonymity from online scammers, blackmailers, etc.

I’m less worried about this, than what a total shower of shite our government is:

An absurd idea, an election giveaway to a moronic voter demographic, likely to be executed so poorly that it’s going to be completely pointless, with huge data privacy implications (and IMO, inevitable data breaches), and to top it all off….. bound to be hugely expensive.

We are worried about pornography, so we are going to hand the worlds biggest pornographer a huge amount of our personal details, and a ****-ton of cash?

Jesus wept – how are these clowns in charge of ANYTHING, let alone the **** country.

Just once i’d like to point at something they’ve done/are doing and say – yeah, that’s good that is.

Kellogg was extremely anti sex, anti-masturbatory. He developed Cornflakes to be so underwhelming in taste, energy and nutrition, that they would stunt sexual desire., thus making people happier and healthier
