    Hi all,

I’ve been using a product called tri-carb from myprotein but it doesn’t mix well enough to put in a camelbak. Fine in a bottle as I can keep shaking it before sipping, but it doesn’t dissolve well and settles in the bottom of the camelbak.

I tried the SIS stuff years ago and it didn’t agree with my stomach. Boots used to do their own, with electrolytes, which worked for me, but they don’t make that anymore!

So, I’m after a recommendation for a relatively cheap (cheaper than SIS for sure!) carb/electrolyte powder that dissolves well in a camelbak, and will be used during exercise/racing.

Much prefer this method to bars/gels.

    Cheers, Martin

I find the Zipvit range very palatable and easy on the stomach, alternatively you could just use maltodextrin in water to make a 6% solution and flavour it with a fruit squash, that would be by far the cheapest option.

Thanks Bazz, I know that maltodextrin doesn’t mix well. I haven’t come across the Zipvit range before though. Have you tried they tubs of powder? Does it dissolve well?

    Cheers, Martin

For some reason the fruit punch flavour zipvit drink disolves much better than the lemon flavour and they are the only two i’ve tried. I would add though that i find malto dissolves very well, maybe try a different brand, i get mine from http://www.bulkpowders.co.uk

High 5 has worked well for me, the original 2:1 powder

I find Torq excellent. Very palatable and plenty of flavour options. The vanilla is great if you are not a fan of sweet flavours.
I always found High5 a bit sickly at the concentrations required and SIS very similar.

Torq for me. Doesn’t make me feel sick like the others do.

Thanks guys, will see if I can get some samples of the above to try. How it mixes/dissolves is the most important thing I guess, as taste will be individual. I can’t afford to buy a tub and find it doesn’t dissolve well in my camelbak!

Hadn’t heard of Torq either, so will look at that.

I raced with ZipVit this year, the mix is OK and the gels were very good, just not in the same race.

Will be using either Torq or Sponsor this season, depending which trial pack I get on best with.

Normally High 5 4:1 for me.
But if im out of that, its usually a homemade mix of dilute to taste juice, honey and a pinch of salt.
