jumped on the trainer last night to go through a spinervals 'aero basebuilder 1' dvd with a shiney new cadence meter and found that i'm way below the cadence i should be working at in order to keep my heart rate in the correct training level.

to get the correct cadence/bpm combination i found i had to go from the specified big ring/15 to small ring/21. to use the correct gear and maintain correct bpm my cadence drops from the required 90 to around 70 if that.

    anyone got any advice?

The few times I have used a turbo-trainer I found it kind of forces you to use a lower cadence as the load is artificial.

I wouldn't get too hung up about cadence and try and train in the real world as much as possible.

Dunno about cadence – I try and spin quite a lot on the turbo, concentrating more on technique. I do find that generally it's harder to get my heart rate as high on the turbo compared to proper riding.
