Having had a SRAM GXP BB go after a mere 800 miles (is this usual ?) I’m looking to get something a bit more hard wearing. Chris King stuff is reknowned for quality, but is it worth the extra money over good old british Hope. And if I go for Hope is ceramic worth the money over stainless steel ?

    CK – Stainless £100
    Hope – Stainless £60
    Hope – Ceramic £80

Looks like I need a £8 converter with Hope to fit SRAM cranks

800miles isn’t bad for a GXP, although they seem to have improved in the last year or so, my old one lasted 3 rides, the current ones at about 500miles!

I had a CK, the DS race stuck to the axle and pulled the bearing appart whilst removing the crank after 2+ years (came in a 2nd hand frame). Having said that it was still smooth after a lot of miles. But it was dry, so clearly meant to be used with the greasing tool, if you can be bothered with that then it’d probably last indefinately.

I’ve gone back to XTR at £16 a pop they’re hard to beat for Shimano cranks.
