I have a FSA mega evo 68mm British threaded bottom bracket to fit in a new frame.

As far as I can glean, the external cups are same size as hollowtech 2 but the hollowtech 2 spanner in my toolkit seems slightly too small. To play safe I acquired a FSA wrench but it too doesn’t seem to quite fit either, again the spanner seems slightly too small.

This is what I have. I’m assuming this is just me being stupid but it’s driving me mad!

I think there are at least 2 very similar bb standard cups. I have an Icetoolz bb tool which has always been fine for hollowtech2 and gxp cups but it wouldn’t fit my Dub BB. Had to buy another one which looks broadly similar but they aren’t interchangeable.

Maybe take it to a bike shop and get them to try and few and then buy the one that fits (which hopefully they have in-stock)

Everyone keeps telling me how much less hassle external screw in cups are. Everytime I go to use one, my existing tool doesn’t fit 🙂

Press-fit = drift to tap it out and a press to push it back in.

I had to do the same as you Joe, ended up getting the Park Tool DUB socket.

MegaExo uses the same tool as the original HT2 BB cup too e.g. Park BBT-9 (other BB tools available). The latest HT2 tool is slightly smaller in diameter. There are now at least 4 different sizes of 16-notch BB spanners – because I appear to have acquired one of each!

Mega Evo has its own specific BB tool. AFAIK only FSA make one. I have one….
    Mega exo tool won’t work.

I have thus far used an adjustable wrench with the grippers wrapped in bubble wrap (so as not to scratch the cups) which has allowed me to tighten somewhat but I’m guessing nowhere near tight enough.
