D0NK, did you get a replacement frame? I’m sure GF frames have a lifetime guarantee.

Bugger! no I didn’t. I was retiring it anyway so didn’t really think about it. Respect to GF the montare had a hard life, running bigger forks than I should and they upgraded it when it broke, I then abused the supercaliber in a similar manner for years, then a few more years commute duty, all this from lightweight xc frames. I got my moneys worth I reckon. Both frames cracked too, no catastrophic failures.

Oh yeah and I completely forgot a brief dalliance with a merlin (see also CRC brandX) jump/slalom frame, silly small, great for hops/drops but too small to pedal, now used by a less tall mate for SSing.

Only one I have left is the Trailstar LT.. the first Trailstar was built up with parts from the Rockhopper (brakes, wheels etc) but cracked at the head tube. So all those parts are now on the LT. The BFe lasted a couple of months but I sold it whilst it was still worth something as I needed the money!

GT Palomar…used this for a commute then took it on a gravel path once. It was 1/4 mile long, flat and a little bumpy….and it died after going up and down the path 20 times in my first off road experience!
Schwinn Moab. Great bike with a crappy Manitou fork. Slowly got upgraded to some nice XTR kit, when I decided to build my
Orange E8. Ultimate contradictory lightweight HT. Full XTR, with a Fox Vanilla RLC and Hope XC on Mavic X3.1 UST rims….climbed like a rocket!
Last bike was a Cannondale Jekyll which was upgraded with a few nice Thomson & Hope bits and an XT chainset.

Only bike now is currently being build – a Marin Attack Trail which spec isn’t decided on but is being built on a budget
