After a selection of Belgian beer (including some Orval, which I can’t seem to find anywhere). There used to be a place in Rochdale but it has closed. Anyone any recommendations where I can order from (mail order is fine)?

    No, no, no.

Giving me access to mail order Belgian beer is not on at all. Not at all….

(I love Belgian beer – might chill some Tripel Karmeliet for when I’ve finished working later.)

Slight hijack, I love Leffe Brune. Does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives? or the best places to buy it?

I tried a few other lovely belgian beers which were similar, the best of which was gulden draak, fantastic but bloody expensive. Mardesous was nice too. There’s bound to be others out there?

Looking forward to my first delivery from these, 24 bottles of Karmeliet Tripel (8.4%).

Works out at £1.67 a bottle, probably about a £1 cheaper than Waitrose…

    edit: £1.33 cheaper 🙂

i thought leffe was the cheap alternative?*

if you’re struggling to find a decent offie, you should be able to find Chimay andor Duval in a super-market?

*edit: on second-thoughts, pelforth brune is very nice, and ‘bierhuis’ claim to stock it…

I order from here every month or so 🙂

Westmalle Dubbel is a very nice alternative to Leffe Bruin….at £2.05 a bottle from the above link, it is one of the cheaper options.

Leffe bruin options; most of the breweries do a ‘dubbel’ . Rochefort 6 is nice above that things get dangerous! Westmalle would be one of my choices especially if you can put a crate in the garage for a while to settle, Hertog Jan grand prestige is currently my beer of choice though. Erdinger Dunkel is also a nice alternative to Leffe Bruin drinking one now actually from a crate bought in Germany for 14 euros!

A friend (who used to work for HMRC) has pointed out there may be customs issues with moving beer across international borders – anyone had problems?

For personal use no problem, just don’t send it to a business address. I’m off to Belgium fir another stock up in the next couple of weeks.

You really don’t want to see that this stuff sells for in the US. It’s good, really good, but not that good enough for those prices

I had a business trip to Belgium a few years back and opted to take the car rather than fly (from Edinburgh). I’m pretty sure the maximum allowance was 50 litres at the time….

It’s 110 litres these days (about 13 crates) – from the ec website

If you are on your way back from Europe and using Calais the Pidou warehouse does a big range of Belgium beers which include Orval. Nice beer but current favourite is Delirium Tremens, especially from the pub in Brussels. Bought some Bush blonde over there just to refresh the mouth 😆 but didn’t realise their beers are mega strong. Even the blonde is 10.5%.

Delirium Tremens is a staple favourite, also Rochefort 10 if you are happy to sip on one for a while. The Xmas specials are not too bad, again Delirium Noel and also Bush Noel.

Excellent, just ordered a mixed Trappist crate to sample over Christmas.

Want to buy a keg from the Belgian Beer link from Godzilla, anyone done it before? There appears to be a deposit required but i have emailed and had nothing back.

Anyone else order anything from the Belgian Beer Factory? I ordered a week ago, and aside from an email to say “thanks, we’ve taken your money”, I’ve had no other communication. No response to an email I sent this morning either.

I’m not expecting next day delivery, but it’d be nice to know it’ll arrive before Xmas.

After a long afternoon / evening in a lovely little pub in Ypres some years ago the owner gave myself and the father in law directions to the abbey and shop. I think we had one of each of the 3 that they make and happily slept all the way back to Calais in the back of the car. The place is well out of the way, you could never come across it by accident as you drive through a farm to get there, if I remember. Once there though the car park is surprisingly busy with locals (going by number plates) what do lunch. A really nice place to visit.
