BBC Playlister

What a handy bit of kit!

I’m the first to admit – I’m not very good with technology, but Playlister is helping me broaden my musical horizons.

I’ve recently started to really enjoy Mary Anne Hobbs’ show on 6Music at the weekends. Playlister means I can go through her playlist whenever I want, add my favourite tracks to Playlister, and now I’m listening to them and buying the mp3s.

The only problem is that a lot of the stuff she plays isn’t out yet 🙁

Any other BBC shows I should check out for playlist inspiration?

The Freak Zone/Freakier Zone, Cerys Matthews, Gideon Coe, Iggy…

without wanting to trawl through the website or google, how does it work? i listen to 6 music through a squeezebox. do i need to hear a song, then go onto my laptop to go to 6 music website, then look for someones webpage, then their playlist, then add it to mine or something? or is it easier than that?

ive always thought itd be great to just hear a song on the radio, and then press a ‘buy’ button which downloads it to ‘my music folder’, ready to be played. im assuming its not quite that easy?

It’s not quite as simple as that, sadly.

I listen to a show and enjoy some tunes. Say for example it’s MAH’s show from Sunday morning just gone. Right now, I can visit the 6Music webpage, and check out the tunes she played on the show on Sunday. I don’t have to listen to the whole show again – there is a list of samples I can listen to on the show website. If I like them, I can add them to Playlister. I can either play the songs on Playlister through Spotify, or I can save them for another day and buy the MP3s when I’m ready.

It’s not quite as simple as that, sadly.

As I understand it if you are listening via the App or online it is that simple. Hear song, click button, song added to your playlist.

The only complication is that if you are listening via the radio there is no button but you could always open the app/website there and then and click the button.

I have the BBC radio player app on my phone and Kindle, just Fire them up and click the button if you like the track, or go back another time and go through the shows track list. Dead easy.

I buys mp3s off Amazon. The amazon downloader app automatically puts them into iTunes.

is there any way i can play my playlister songs without having an internet connection? im thinking of holidays abroad really. im constantly adding songs to my playlist without really knowing if ill ever be able to use them properly.

yes i realise i can fire up youtube or something and choose to let it find all my songs, but when im at home, im just constantly on 6 music and hearing new stuff rather than playing older stuff. i think where id use something like this most is laid on that badboy sunbed abroad, playing all these great songs in random rather than my albums. can i export offline in ‘spotify free’ say, and play them later? or would i actually have to buy every track to play offline?

Pretty sure they won’t play offline, because they become a Spotify playlist, although I think it’s possible to download tracks for offline use if you actually subscribe to Spotify.
I think that’s how it works, anyway.
And you have register with the Beeb’s site to be able to do anything with the Playlister as well, off I understand it correctly.

yeah ive registered with the bbc site, and itll let me export playlist, but when i choose spotify, nowt happens. maybe cos im using linux, dunno :-/

but yep, looks like youre right about not being able to access offline. shame cos id love to listen to all those tracks on holiday say, but just not worth a tenner a month just for that.
