Got fed up with too many substitutions from Asda orders, so gave Morrisons a go.

Ordered Wednesday for a Thursday delivery. They tried to take the payment at about 2 in the morning. It was flagged up as suspicious so my card was blocked and the order cancelled.

The automated fraud system called me and I approved all the payments.

So I reordered yesterday and yet again they did the same, ordered cancelled and card blocked.

I haven’t used Morrisons for a couple of years and it never used to an issue but now it appears to be impossible to pay Morrisons with a Barclays account!

Are you sure Morrisons is the reason, have you perhaps got some marker on your Barclays account that is stopping any new transactions and it just so happens that Morrisons was the first things you tried to purchase with the card since?

Have you used the account at any other places and had it work?

    I’m certain it’s Morrisons.

The order shows at what time it can be amended, then they take the payment. Both times it was about 2.00am, which coincides with the text messages they sent me to say my card is blocked.

Possibly relevant – I had some internet banking payments referred to Barclays fraud dept recently, and it resulted in subsequent payments all being referred and delayed for a week or two.

It seems that any fraud referral puts some marker on your account which then flags everything that looks similar on the Barclays system…

It’s probably Barclaycard rather then Mo’s. Years ago, I had my own company and used a Barclaycard credit card to try to buy some Dell computers. My mistake was to do this at the weekend. The order was cancelled and I had to ring Barclaycard to get a code which I was told to use with Dell. The lad from Dell told me that Barclaycard uniquely amongst all the payment systems automatically block these specific transactions, and that each Monday Dell tasked an employee just to sort them out, often with pissed off folks who just wanted their computers order sorted.

The most important thing here is… have you ordered any Morrisons salt and pepper baguettes from their bakery

If not then do so and get some smoked salmon pate or blue cheese to go with it

You can thank me later 😉

Is this via a debit card? Any new sites I’ve used in the past couple of years (or over a certain amount) I always just get a message to authenticate it via the Barclays app and never had an issue. Usually then don’t have to again for that site unless I make a significantly larger than usual purchase.

    I don’t get  that option.

The payment is made in the early hours of the day of delivery.

The first time I got a text asking me to confirm but I obviously didn’t notice.

Ok so the issue is that the payment is delayed until the amendment window closes. Then you get a text at a silly time that you can’t respond to.

Is there no button to force payment early? Or a close order to amendments button to force payment

What do they think is fraudulent about a 2am purchase? That’s when my drunken internet purchase are usually made. Bstards never blocked my card.

    All working now.

Not going to bother with automated fraud line thing again.

I phoned them up and spoke to a person and repeated the same confirmations I had done with the automated line.

Wasted half an hour of my life.

Morrison’s surely isn’t blocking your card.  Why on god’s green earth would they even if they could?  “This chap’s ordering a weekly shop, quick, get his payment declined!”

There’s only one entity which can have your card stopped and that’s the card provider.

I am with the same bank as op.

They too blocked my debit card last week after I made an online purchase from a local store.

I had to call them up again to unblock my card.

Yes, I ordered on Friday night but luckily managed to unblock it on Saturday morning (I had to call at 9am).
