NE as in North East of England. I used to use the local garage but they won’t do any electrical work. They say they will, but then give back the car in exactly the same condition, suck their teeth and tell me it’s ‘complicated’.

So I got on the Volvo forums and everyone is singing the praises of a certain garage, not six miles from me. Bit of a PITA as I have to get a lift back, but this guy is supposed to be an ex dealership mechanic with all the specialist Volvo kit.

Dropped it off yesterday with a sheet of paper listing five seperate faults I want fixed, one of which is the replacement of the drivers’ door module. Got fobbed off all day yesterday with various excuses, and the same all day today. Just spoke to the guy just now and he says, “Well there’s 24 separate faults (after running diagnostics) and the drivers’ door module needs replaced”.

And?! Yes??!! Why TFingF do you think I’ve given you my car? I know what’s wrong with it – I want to pay you money to fix it!! You’ve now had it two full days and apparently I’ve got to go and pick it up tomorrow first thing because you’re pushed for space??!

Where are you in the NE?

I always used one when i was up there, which is now in the Good garage scheme. Small operation and lots of good feedback online.

Having said that, i think most garages get someone in to do the electrics.

I’m a wee bit South of Sunderland. The chap who has the car just now is supposed to be a bit of a wizard with Volvo electronics, which is why I took it to him. I see there’s a driver’s door module on ebay for my car priced at £60 inc postage. Tempted to have a punt and just do it myself tbh.

Cheers. Will give them a try, but I reckon I’m a bit tied to garages which have the Volvo diagnostics kit. Might even have to hit up a main dealer :-O
