Anyone still using rock n roll extreme lube?

Is anyone still using it? The version of old was awesome albeit got through quite a lot, read lots of things on here about it changing for the worse? Is that still the case or people still religiously using it through our shit winters?

Yes I only use the blue stuff, it’s still the best thing I’ve found so far. Lasts well and cleans off easily.

Disclaimer I live and ride in Wiltshire which is mostly chalky mud so more abrasive mud/grit might be an issue.

I’ve just finished my first ever bottle of it. I found it to be complete crap. Applied as instructed and the chain was making a racket within a few miles, on and off road. I’ve got some TF2 and Squirt to try next. May save the Squirt until the summer though!

Gave up on squirt for winter, as found chain (shimano) was rusting after cleaning. Using juice lubes wet, impressed so far, leaves an oily film on the chain, doesn’t attract muck and chain is silent in use.

I’ve been using the blue one for ages. I won’t use anything else now. The key is in the application.

I always buy the large bottle so that I can pour plenty of it on.

Got blue for outside and red for bike on trainer and use out in Spain (dry dusty).

The older seemed less greasy but both work well.

I use it. Works well for me. Blue or Gold. ‘Zero Friction Cycling’s’ analysis of it gives good results as long as it’s reapplied if wetness encountered and adequate penetration is achieved. The only thing to tempt me away is ‘Silca’s Super Secret Drip’ but it’ll need to come down in price a bit, though I can see the value in it already if one runs a pricey drivetrain as it appears to achieve astounding low chain wear. I use the red for my nicest road bike/turbo and the blue for my MTB’s but only when it dries up as it doesnt last long enough in the wet/mud to be used so I then switch to a random lube which is currently pedros syn lube.

Loved the blue last summer but found it really stiffens up in winter and isn’t that great in preventing surface rust. Still prefer an old fashioned wet lube for this time of year.

Mixed bag so far then, shame really as the old stuff really was the holy grail

It did last incredibly well in winter rides and used to keep the drivetrain clean too

I have read that silca one before looks very promising but is indeed very expensive too not sure I can justify that at the minute

I might just get a small bottle of rnr blue and see how I get on and not hold out too much hope of the rnr of old days

I’m running down my supplies of Gold as I found it just doesn’t last as well as the old stuff. I don’t mind having to reapply after a ride, but now it seems to last less than 1 ride if it’s a bit damp.

Still using it. Like many I was disappointed when they changed the recipe, and the new stuff is deffo. less solvent-y.

But, I think it’s better! Seems to last longer and still mixes when stored in a freezing shed. I used to have to take my bottle of the original stuff inside to get it to emulsify.

I’m still using the new version. Definitely doesn’t last as long as the old one in the wet.
Might try peaty’s next.

Cheers for the replies, have managed to get some and forgot how easy it is to get through a bottle in no time at all 😅

I’ve applied it to a degreased clean dry chain and cassette, and got the chain dripping with it

Will report back, it’s hard looking at the chain to see it’s actually going to do anything as it just seems so watery

That was one of the reasons why I ditched it in the end, plus supply drying up too. I’m on White Lightning Wet for the winter bikes and Peaty’s for the rest, but in the current weather Peaty’s still needs a trip inside to become usable.

Well was very impressed after today’s outing

Chain definitely felt smoother throughout the ride, and was very very very clean when I got back

Only caveat is it was bone dry and almost dusty! So didn’t have hardly a splash of water on it or mud

So it’s passed the dry weather test I guess as it felt really good today

Guess will see what terrible noises and other abnormalities occur when it’s back to slop
