Found a good deal on some and they look great with an internal width of 30mm
Anyone run them? Have any opinions? Would need to swap th Ed freehub for an XD driver - is it a 240 hub (think so)?

Not sure you can buy better wheels for aggressive riding for any amount of money.

Aftermarket ones come with both HG and XD drivers in the box (except Microspline option).

Effectively EX511s on a lighter version of 240s straightpull hubs. Extremely well built. Mine have never needed touched in any respect.

Pretty much the best factory wheels you can buy imo.

Been running a pair for 18mths faultless only work I needed to do was when I put a mech through the wheel, 2 new spokes a bit of a true didn’t even need to replace the tape or remove the tyre 🙂

Wouldn’t hesitate to buy the same again.
The other bike has self built ex511 on 240s basically the same wheel.

had them in 26 inch form then bought ex471 rims in 27.5 size to effectively make a 27.5inch version. real happy with them.

what is the deal?

Pretty much the gold standard for alloy wheels and lighter than most carbon.

Also like that they use ther same length spokes throughout the wheelset, so you only need to carry one length as a spare if you're going away. Most shops carry straight pull DT's now anyway.

After breaking a spoke on mine I found out most shops don’t carry straight dt spokes, but great wheels though, still not changed bearings on mine. Would have gone through several sets front and rear on hopes. Rims very strong for weight and build quality can’t be beaten.

I recently got some XM 1501's from Bike Wheels Direct and they were happy to supply with XD and microspline freehub, so could be worth a look

I've had a pair for a bit over 3 months and 1400 km of Dark Peak riding. I did wonder about carbon instead but these ride really nicely, have put up with some pretty clumsy moments, and have been absolutely fine. The pair of wheels I now have on order are carbon but that's not because the EX1501s are in any way inadequate.

I have a set, they’ve been excellent for 2 years.

I did think the 30mm referred to the external width but I could be wrong

Got these, love them, light for what they do and pretty much taken everything my clumsy riding has thrown at them, easy to maintain, i have spare XD drivers if you get the wheels without one, over time i seem to have gathered 2 shimano and 2 XD freehubs!

I have a couple of sets of the 1501 wheelsets (albeit XM, rather than EX). Regardless of material, for the sort of riding I do, I still rate them as the best wheelset on the market today.

The only lighter carbon wheelset I’ve run is the XMC1200’s which didn’t end well - apart from the hubs being repurposed into a stealth version of these wheels with some XM481 rims.

These have lasted multiple times longer than any carbon wheelset I’ve tried (which has been a few!) and they ride better.
