Excellent, that deserves a bump. Unfortunately for me I’m a bit too distant to join.

Maybe put a link to this on the RC Car/tank thread, those guys would be all over it like a tramp on chips.

I’d have loved to attend if I was closer. Thanks for putting this kind of inclusive thing up.

Thanks all 🙂 . Really is a great club. The basic ethos is obey Rule 1 and you’ll be reyt.

Still learning myself but hopefully on Sunday, assuming I fly as well as I did Tuesday night, I’ll be passed out to fly solo on my electric trainer at least 🙂

Great invite! Not too far from me but sadly we are away…

You must have a lot of faith in your instructors though 😀

    Good luck with the solo!

@timbog160 – the instructors have a transmitter too so can take over immediately if things start going wrong… as they inevitably do in the early days 🙂

They are also very good and much of the time muscle memory just takes over.

If you’re ever interested just head to the field any weekend the weather is nice and if there are people there they’ll make you welcome

Is there a suitable cliff facing a strong wind there? If so I’ll turn up. 😏

@eddiebaby – very keen to get involved in slopes. Our field is flat as a pancake though. Good thermals but rubbish for sloping :(.

Need to find myself a half decent slope soarer. On the list of acquisitions to be made as I have a couple of spots close to home that would work.

Top tip, try and remain conscious.

    I’ll get my coat.

What a fantastic offer. In my group rides when we talk about ‘what will you do once you can’t really MTB any more’ (still a long way off hopefully!), RC planes are absolutely top of my list.

Would love to join, too far away for me this time, but hope its a great day.

Good shout OP.  Defo good to get some new people involved.

Our local club was full of grumpy old men. So I sold my IC trainer (as was the norm then) and went sloping instead. Hey @eddiebaby – still got your old bird 60. It’s a tough little thing as I’ve not treated it well! Not flown for years. Same as @big_scot_nanny, I’ll be back to it post MTBing.

I expect all my kit will look like 26inch wheels tho 😉

Hey @eddiebaby – still got your old bird 60.

I think that was the double carbon with lots of extra reinforcement around the ballast tube area? Built to handle my landings…

    double carbon

There’s certainly a lot of carbon in there 🙂 I really must cycle/replace the batteries. There appears to be about 15 gliders in the rafters in various states of disrepair.

Sorry OP, didn’t meant to hijack your post.

There are a few of them in our club as well but the majority of members are nice folk. Always someone to lend a hand to make sure you get a flight or two in even if that means giving you a glow plug, a splash of fuel or anything else you may forget – especially in the early days.

Went yesterday and tried to fly a lightweight electric model in 25mph+ winds. It was hilarious! I do have a big IC trainer as well but to get solo quickly electric is the way to go as everything happens slower and does far less damage if it goes wrong 🙂

And no worries re: the hijack – I love gliders and already have a little collection ready for when I am good to go solo…

I did pass my “A” test there. But it was (and may still be, it’s 5 mins up the road so I see/hear the models sometimes) all a bit committee and rules and stuff. I get it, but it’s not for me.

Sloping is somewhat more informal 😉 I learned off some very good pilots who were very patient with me. I also learned by ‘rekitting’ a few models and taking them home in a bin liner. But all part of the fun. Also if you’ve got a couple of foam ‘wings you can pretend it’s the 1980s again and go for a bit of combat. Not sure they’d allow that with props and stuff 🙂

Not really… But I did watch a vid yesterday of a 1/13th scale Airbus which looked and sounded amazing. Stunning to watch!

Just a heads up that my club is holding another open weekend over the August bank holiday. Again all are welcome and instructors will be on hand to give trial flights to anyone who has always wanted to give it a go.

The last weekend was hugely successful and there were loads of different models being flown. If you’ve nothing else planned feel free to head on down 🙂
