The legs are feeling it this morning!

I was thinking about starting intermittent fasting, 16 hours from 8pm to 12pm, but not after last night's near 1000kcal effort!! 🤣

Weighed in at 82kg dead this morning so I'm officially at 3w/kg 😁

Did the pedalling drills workout tonight, meh. Served as a nice warm up for a blast around Richmond afterwards though.

That’s cool….

But remember… these plans are hard to fit in, so sometimes YOU need to get it in the diary and YOU take priority… time never ‘appears’… we need to make time….!

Was that a DrPep talk? Consider me pepped 😂😉

I've stolen the Apple TV 4K from the living room as we never use it.

No excuse now for the next group ride 🙂

Nice, only issue with the Apple TV is the remote, but you get used to it after a while. Not had a single crash.

Rest day for me today.

Pedal Drills done.

Was a reasonable way to cool down after the final DoddieAid ride.

Might aim for a z2 100km tomorrow if I can be arsed. Then a rest day on Monday and the fun begins again...I think

Yeah next week is a decent step up, 2x 'easy' rides at 68 & 73 TSS (1hr long) and then a 90 and a 105 (orange unicorn... oof!).

Wassup y’all..

You all got your training schedule in your diaries??

My plan is:
What goes up - Monday PM
REAL LIFE RIDE - Tuesday pm
Half Vems - either wed or Thursday, 1815 (Group ride)
Mush mash - Friday am
Orange unicorn - Sunday 0830 (group ride)

Anyone up for joining in??

I'l probably try to jump on the group ride next Sunday, my shifts for this week mean I'm just going to have to squeeze in rides whenever I can.

I completed Red Unicorn this morning but I think I may have my FTP set a bit low, my average HR was only 131bpm which seemed a bit low for the session.
I might wait another week or two then do another ramp test to see where it puts me. No point in doing the plan if my FTP's set too low.

Doing the big one today.

Pedalling drills don’t work so well on flat pedals - doh. Looks like some cheap spd pedals and shoes are on the shopping list then.

I might have a tough time of fitting everything in this coming week as I start a new job on Monday so don't know how much time I'll have in the evenings. Still got Devedeset to do from week one today! Will just do them as I find time and see what's left by the weekend, I do have a IRL ride planned for the Saturday though so that might make things complicated.

I'd be in for a Weds/Thurs group ride, 6:30ish is ideal.

I'll be spreading the rest out, one Monday evening, one Tuesday - then one of the 90 min rides at the weekend.

8:30 on a Sunday is waaay too early for me 😁

Sign me up for the group ride! Either wed or Thursday is fine. Agree 8.30am sun is far too early, but would attempt it - gets it out of the way at least 😀

Missed the group ride unfortunately due to unexpected family taxiing requirement. Thursday is better than Wednesday for me, Id have to bail early. Does it make any difference if you start the workout early then join the group ride- I'm guessing the rides aren't synced in any way except putting you in the same place on the course on screen- ie I can start my workout, join the ride at the appropriate time, continuing my workout and leave when workout finishes?

Going to change the saddle on the bike this afternoon to an ISM job then do the pedalling drill- not sure whether it's going to be a change for the better, but I figure that if i don't like it then it's only half an hour of discomfort rather than an hour and more.

Just finished the Devedeset workout, that was tough keeping the cadence in the zones! A good way to end the first week though, not too tough to destroy the motivation but got the legs burning nicely.

I'll accept invites for the midweek and Sunday morning group rides if they're going ahead, definitely make the Sunday one but midweek will depend in a few things.

@vinnyeh - you can't start a workout until you've joined the meetup so that won't work sadly.

Oof... "what goes up" was HARD today!

Did it outside (as in.. trainer in the garden!)...

Tough, but finished it!

How's everyone else?

All got this week's session penciled in the diaries?

Just completed the same workout, it's an utter bastard with the low cadence at the end! Probably not the best workout to do the night before the last STW race if the season that involves a big climb, my legs are totally ruined.

I'm sensing a theme with these workouts, mishmash had 60rpm/100rpm (1 min each, 6 reps) intervals right at the end too...

@tomnavman you're in luck as I've just read that, following the latest Zwift update, all the Build Me Up, Pebble Pounder, and Gran Fondo workouts are now available on-demand, rather than having to join the training program and complete them at the appropriate time as was previously the case!

Just finished What goes up, must come down....last set was all over the place, down in the 40's rpm then it seemed Zwift would take pity on me and I was spinning again. Up when I was meant to be down and vice versa, brutal. Definitely did not get a star for that (2nd) last interval.

Halvfems done this morning. Not too taxing but I was starting to feel it by the last couple of intervals.
I originally planned to do What Goes Up today but I've got a 12h shift later today and don't fancy doing it with wrecked legs! I'll save it until my day off on Friday.

@DrP Can you ping me an invite for Sunday's group ride please? I'm off work so should be able to make it.

Will bash out Sunday am invites later tonight...

Remember; all joining the workout tonight (ideally Halfvems, but if you've done it..whatevs!!!) the process is:
Start zwift
DON'T PICK A WORKOUT
Start a ride
Joint the meetup at 15min to go..
GO TO MENU, AND THEN PICK THE WORKOUT
Carry on waiting on the blue virtual turbo until go time!

You know it's right when the workout 'components' are on the left of the screen as you wait..

Can you spin up on the virtual turbo before the workout/session starts without it triggering the workout to start?

Nick.. are you Nick Barnett in Zwift?!!! I think you were there with us!

Another great group workout.... TOP STUFF!

How does everyone feel? these sweet spot ones SHOULDN'T be too draining.... but you DO feel the pressure towards the end of each set!

Who's in for Orance unicorn on sunday then?

As I mentioned in teh meetup... I'm actually doing too much high intensity stuff, so am going to miss mishmash and do 90 min of zone 2 stuff on friday am...

I'm getting more than a bit fed up with Zwift (or more likely my setup) now.

Freezes and much annoyance on PC - possibly linked to it not liking AMD graphics.

Apple TV stole from lounge and latest remote bought.
Awful control that I thought would be better with latest remote - it isn't.
Bluetooth connection through companion app, drops connection 20 mins or so in.
Can't get anything to turn back on properly.
Leave it 5 minutes
Reconnects but Turbo won't hold power in ERG mode.
Give up, turn it all off and try Sufferfest on PC.
Realise wife has BT dongle and ANT+ is rubbish.
Give up and try 30 minutes short mix on ATV again.
Turbo still not playing right.
Give up, pack up and have a shower and tea.

Why oh why is it so much bloody trouble.
Never used to be.

Next time I will try this laptop running Zwift to see if that holds things together better.

Don't think I can do Sunday though.

So I use the ATV for most of my zwifting... NEVER use the companion for the Bluetooth though...
Always connect direct to the ATV..
But... I've a Neo2t that does power/cadence/control, and a HR monitor.

May not work for you if you need a few BT connections...

What did I do wrong?

This happened to me the first (and only) time I tried an STW group ride. I was stuck on the virtual turbo for several minutes after everyone else left then all of a sudden I was released but nobody else was around!

@DrP Yep, I have a Kickr v1 and need BT for that, HR strap and cadence sensor. 3 slots on the ATV but need one of them for the remote.

If I can get it to behave on this laptop, I'll swap the graphics card in my main PC where the trainer is set up. Could do with an excuse to upgrade the gaming PC anyway 😉

I know it means spending more money, but I use a 4iii HR monitor that takes my ant+ cadence sensor and transmits as BT on the same channel as the HR monitor. Leaving 2 x BT channels for the remote and Turbo.

Since using ATV with this method its been really stable and reliable. I also use the Companion App via Wifi, not BT.

Hope this helps

Cut it way too fine today getting kids in bed but just about got into the meetup on time.

100+rpm is a struggle but feel like it's getting better.

Up for Orange Unicorn on Sunday. Did What Goes Up yesterday lunchtime so just have Mishmash to do on Friday evening.

I have a stand up fan from screwfix with a remote. Works for me, but then I am Zwifting in a cold garage at the mo, so don’t need a huge wind blowing.

Yes you do!
I use one of those industrial floor fans for about £45 - top speed is good for summer. But depending on your room conditions a cheaper fan might be ok.

@Drp thanks for organising. It seemed entirely happy keeping me with you guys despite me doing What goes up instead of Halferns. I guess it’s logical but it’s good to see it works practice.

That one final 60rpm bit in WGU was a drag, Im just glad they mixed sitting and standing. I probably won’t be around on Sunday, so I’ll have to find time for Orange Unicorn alone. Maybe Thursday evening.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue sign up to a 12-week training plan.

Going away for half-term has affected the first 2 weeks of this (ie I've done nothing apart from the benchmarking) and I'm going to struggle to make the 1815 sessions. Most of my Zwifting happens at 8pm once kids are in bed. So I'm going to stop this workout and start another to plod along on my own.

Ride on everyone!

Just finished What Goes up Must Come Down. I was expecting it to be much worse than it was, it wasn't overly taxing on the legs.
I definitely think I need to do another ramp test to update my FTP for the rest of the plan.
I'll probably swap one of next weeks workouts for the Ramp Test and see how I go from there.

I’ve avoided the need to spend a small fortune on a new graphics card in order to get Zwift stable on my PC.

Logic is dodgy though, as this avoidance was done by buying a new trainer at double the intended spend. Oops.

From tomorrow I should be Zwifting on AppleTV with no additional BT problem connections, dropouts, freezing or gremlins.

And a shameless plug to buy my old kit in the classifieds. 😆

I've just done 90 min of zone 2 (own workout) as was missing low level stuff..)... IT crashed with about 7 min to go (warmdown basically).. managed to save the file to0s trava..not sure if it'll give me the zwift points and route badge though!

Halvfems done, wasn't too bad
What goes up must come down on the other hand... ooft, that was minging from the first 5 minute interval, nearly reached for the companion app to drop the FTP by a few % but clung on for grim death.

Feeling a bit foggy after a trip to the pub last night, might try mish mash tonight but could easily give it a swerve in favour of some sofa surfing with the fire on.

Anyone else suffer with calf cramp at higher rpm, 100+? I've ended up with cramp anxiety!
