Could anyone recommend a UK based shop/service that offer a refinishing service for titanium frames? It just needs a strip down, rebrush and new decals applied.

Looking to bring my Seven Alaris back to its best – its looking a little worse for wear after 6 years/15000 miles of service.

Seven offer a refinishing service, but it involves shipping to the US and parting with about $400 for the actual service.

Much cheaper than $400! Not used them myself, however am considering getting them to do some repair / resto work for me on a retro ti frame.

It really is dead easy to do yourself. I had 7 of them and even if you send it back to Seven, they simply handbrush it with Scotchbrite, which is a bit time consuming, but easy to do. New decals are about £20 from Sigma Sport.

To be fair, the Seven service involves re-cutting the threads and checking alignment etc, but if all you want is a cosmetic refinish, there is no need to use a specialist.

Otherwise, where are you? I would happily do it for you. I am in London. In fact, I even have a spare set of Alaris decals, believe it or not!

Solarider, I’ve dropped Seven an enquiry about replacement Alaris decals, but if they don’t have any left, I may well get in touch. Cheers mate.

It is quite hard to find in the UK, but you want the green stuff. The white is too fine and doesn’t replicate the original Seven finish. There is a decorating shop around the corner from us that happens to do it. About £5 for a pack that will last you forever! Let me know if you don’t have any luck finding it and I’ll get some for you. It is always great to have to polish out any scratches and marks that you get over time.

You basically cut it into strips of about 3cms wide, wrap it round the tubes and polish. A whole frame will take 15 minutes, and it doesn’t take much elbow grease. In fact, the lighter the better. You should strip the frame completely including bb, headset and headtube badge. Then you don’t need to worry about scuffing your components.

I was keen to strip down my Morning Glory, as it is covered in laquer, which seems a bit pointless, and annoyingly easy to scratch- is it as easy to take off? Would like to have a shiney one: -)
