unkle – you might have included that already in DJ Shadow. Psyence Fiction and Never, Never Land are the best imo. I thought the others were a bit meh.

Burial’s stuff is pretty much entirely made from samples.

Four Tet/Percussions fits the bill also, along with Madlib.

Megatop Phoenix by Big Audio Dynamite, an underrated classic album.

ANYTHING by Big Audio Dynamite. A very underrated band all round. Listen to them and you hear where so many other bands got their sound from.

DJ Shadow.

I know they are old school, but in my mind you can’t beat a bit of Carter USM.

Cold cut were rather adept with a sampler and if you like Kung Fu films then Depth Charge is/was excellent. For film samples UNKLE edit music for a film is really good as well.
