Does the Aggressor roll better than a DHR2?

Maxxis seem to sugest it doesn’t in their catalogue.

    It rates a 2 for rolling resistance, the DHR2 is a 3 (Minion SS is a 4)

I was thinking of sticking one on the rear for the summer, but….

DHRIIs are a waste of money on the rear in summer unless you’re racing or a massive feartie. stick an SS on. it has the same cornering edge.
Agressor tread patern design has no qualities I’d be interested in paying for.

I find the 2.3 aggressor roles beautifully but is rubbish in any kind of mud really and braking is not particularly great.  The 2.5 is better all around, but suffers slightly in terms of rolling resistance.  Been a while since i user a DHR2 but seem to remember it being draggier than an aggressor…Maybe not much in it.

DHR2 dual compound rolls hardly any slower than the Minion SS. So as a feartie I like it on the full-sus – the hardtail has a Minion SS because I don’t ride it as much on steep stuff.

Maxxis’s number rating system suggests they’ve never actually ridden many of their tyres.

I was thinking the exact same thing between the Agressor and DHRII. I’m going to Morzine in August and I’ve got an aggressor to go on. Going to run it before then to see how it is.

Its should be fine though, unless it’s stupid muddy, then I’ll chuck on some Magic Mary’s.

Contrary to the poster above, I have run Minion SS, DHR II and Aggressor recently. Minion SS is great for easier terrain like Ard Rock, but steep loose stuff in the woods is a bit lethal (especially with any dampness) as you can only brake with it leaned over. Maybe i’m just a ‘massive feartie’ whatever that is…

Aggressor (double down) went on over the winter and held out well, it wasn’t terrible in the slop at all. Also used it in finale and only swapped it off for a DHR2 at Tweedlove when the rain was forecast. In the dry it brakes ok, and corners well. I had it paired with a DHR2 WT up front and in the dry loose/loam I was hanging over the front of the bars to stop the front giving way first, which says a lot for its cornering grip, despite only being dual compound.

DHR2 3C on the back is easier to ride than the aggressor, you can brake harder and it doesn’t feel as loose if you brake through the corner. But it is definitely slower rolling in my view, and degrades a lot quicker.

I think the aggressor rolls faster but definitely feels less secure than a dhr2. The dhr2 gets run on the back of my bike in the winter / when still damp – I swapped the aggressor back on to my bike a month ish ago. When it gets sloppy again the dhr2 will replace it.

So far I’ve run a dhf up front and a dhr2. Much prefer the dhf on the front as it’s more predictable on the limit.

May try a Magic Mary on the front on the upcoming winter.

I use the aggressor when I want a pedally dh tyre for places like finale. Does feel like it’s a bit better all round than a dhr2 but not quite as sticky. But if I want more grip I use a dhf, the dhr2 doesn’t really come into it for me. It’s hanging up in the garage somewhere after doing 1 weekend.

2.3 DHR2 3C and 2.3 Aggressor dual are my two main rear tyres. Aggressor rolls much quicker in the dry/firm, but it is dual vrs 3C too which will have a bearing. Aggressor brakes ok in dry conditions hard or loose, no worries riding steep loose or loamy off piste in the summer. For the same terrain in winter I like the reassurance of the DHR2 on the back as I’m a “massive feartie”, and for that reason I don’t like a SS on the trails I ride. The Aggressor isn’t too bad in slop but between slop and dry it tends to clog easily with sticky mud.

The Aggressor is usually paired with a Mary or a DHF up front, and the DHR2 with a Mary or Shorty, to give you an idea of how I use the two rears.

Maxxis’s website descriptions are marketing only, just ignore it. At least they stopped saying “this tyre doesn’t forget the racer” in pretty much every decription.

Haven’t used an aggressor though, it seems to just be an unneccesary halfway house between the dhr2 and SS (or rockrazor) to me, don’t see the space for it. But ymmv.

Also, I haven’t badmouthed the forekaster for a while, so I’ll just mention that it’s the shitest tyre in their range- just on general principles. It’s a maxxis nobby nic, the world did not need that.

Friend’s bike came witha 2.4 Ardent front and a 2.3 Forekaster rear and i can’t make sense of it at all

I run DHR II exo 2.5 wt mostly all year round on the back but thought I’d try an aggressor this summer.

I got the an aggressor in the same casing as the above and have now put 3 holes in it already (two in the peak and one in the lakes)

Two of which are around the tread of the tyre.

I’m running the same pressures as the DHRII

I’ve read the same elsewhere also, so just be careful if you ride rocky trails.

Mines coming off this weekend and the DHRII going back on.

Agree with the above. Usually run a DHR2 on the rear but tried the aggressor for a few rides.

I didnt think it rolled much faster and it was not holding up to rough riding, punctures galore….

DHR2 back on the rear with either a Shorty or DHF up front depending on conditions.

You have another option with Rekon, it does have very little rolling resistance but at the expense of having almost no braking grip on loose surfaces. There were quite a few surprising moments in autumn before I changed it to DHR II.

I am just sewing up my gashed Aggressor now. It is a great tyre but I hoped for more from double down.

No problems with my dull old school High Roller 2 downhill single compound 60A, but it doesn’t hook up on steep technicla step climbs like the Aggressor. Having said that I have plenty of gashed tyres waiting repairs, including a HR2 downhill and a Specialized downhill…

OP, if you run 29er, I have one of each slightly part worn I was about to chuck on ebay, drop me a PM.

I’m a schwalbe fan and couldnt bring myself to fit them to my bike, then the new hans dampf was relased which I will pick up instead for the rear.

As another option, I’m really liking the Tomahawk as a rear tyre especially in DD flavour.
