‘scuse my ignorance, but would 700c tyres fit on 29 inch rims? Are they the same? And if not, how different are they?

Cheers mi dears for your combined wisdom

Yes – they are the same.

I thought the rim bed was wider on 29er rims, though the diameter (622mm) is the same – as such, (narrow, eg 23mm) road tyres may not fit.

Same is true of any rim diameter – e.g. A big DH tyre won’t “fit” onto a narrow XC rim. Of course you can get it on, but the profile will poor/dangerous.

29er is the modern niche name for 700c and they tend to be wider ,just the same as 700c rims come in different widths depending on application. It’s just a name to make you think someone has invented something else when it existed all the time

29er is what the fanboys call 700c to differentiate their bikes from hybrids.

    So a quite wide 700c tyre, say 700c x 42 should be ok on a 29er rim?

29er just refers to the outside diamiter of the tyre the same as 26″ does.

Almost definitely. What rim is it?

    I’m running Conti Gatorskins 700c x 28 on a stan’s arch rim (19mm)
