Any major disadvantages of going to 28h?

32 hole is 4 better.
disadvantage - a bit weaker and flexier basically. Whether that makes any real world difference to you is hard to say definitively.

depends on the stiffness of the rim, lower spoke count with carbon rim is fine,
low spoke count with ztr mmx - noodly

Many other factors as stated above, but there is a weakening/flexiness increase disproprtionate to the decrease in spoke count.
I'd go for rev spokes first, esp on the front.

You end up with 7 groups of 4 instead of 8. It looks wrong, it's not symetrical and it upsets my OCD. That's why 36 hole pretty much disappeared. I made it so. I want wheels to look pretty.

I used to get on ok with Skyway Tuffs, & they only had five spokes. 🙂
