from DC rainmaker the difference between direto 1 and 2 is ;
Elite has technically updated the name of the Direto to the Direto II for all units shipping from Sept 2018 forward. The *only* difference is that this new unit comes with a front riser block for your wheel, and they’ve changed the specification to be a claimed accuracy of +/- 2.0% versus +/- 2.5%. No physical hardware change has occurred.)
I think Scaled jinxed me!!! I did the mgcc race this morning and only just managed to get set up in time. As we are going through London i was thinking something isnt right, i cant feel the little ramps. I hit box hill and decide to up the pace and i ran out of gears! I was in 50/11 gear doing 92rpm and i was only doing 370w 4.7w/kg, that is my sprint gear so should have been 500w+. Anyway i just went full gas all the way round and destroyed the B’s on the second lap, maximum watts for race was just 414w! Not sure what was wrong as it was perfect yesterday so done firmware update and several calibration tests and it seems fine now.
@blader1611 how do you do the firmware update? Its not the easiest info to find!
I dont have a direto, i am using a tacx flow Nixie.
Elite firmware updates are (rare but supposedly) via the (shit) phone app, I think
sometimes a couple of days off feels like a life time, took the legs a little while to settle in, back on after a stint of nights, 10:20 WBR 3 Lap Classique - got dropped by the main group just before the 7.1km lead in ended, left me with 1 who wasn't working, we did a lap, got caught by another 2, we stayed together until end of lap 2 and got caught by a big bunch, worked hard to stay with them, think i came 3/4th in the sprint for line in a bunch of 10 or so, not my best race, certainly not my worst, just middle of the road racing, don't really like London
"Just" finished a race with 3 STWers in it (well, two and a dirty BRT splitter! 😉 ) and for my first ever time I finished in the front pack - nice flat course that suits me just fine, and pretty short, plus not enough A riders to smash it up
Nixie and several others pipped me in the sprint (- mostly by sprinting, which I feel is unreasonable behaviour). I wasn't at the back of it though, and could've been a contender if I hadn't burned my aero hat in the last mile after getting dropped 🙄
Not sure who h mushman is, but "Hi" all the same !
Back to near enough the best power I've ever pulled out of the bag, except in really short races, and definitely my best since my hernia surgery so happy with that (I also did a better than usual job of hiding in the pack and keeping my nose out of the wind)
(ooooh, got a cup too, after some upgrades to the faster Bs !)
last minute chance to jump on the turbo today, no races at the time so did a Greatest London Loop (Forward) - was maybe on for a small FTP increase up the Leith Hill Full Veloviewer segment, but its not long enough avg of 308 for 15 minutes, ill take that
308's bloody good - you a B ?
Scaredy, Harvey Mushman would be me, I stole the alias from Steve McQueen. Unfortunately I'm not him though.
That was a tough enough race, I just lost the back of the bunch with 3 miles to go on a short climb. I think I let my mind tell me I was going to get dropped and that was it. TT effort to the line after that trying to hold off the C group. I ended up a minute and a half down on the lead group and the same in front of the next group.
You don't half notice the lack of draughting when you let the bunch gap you. I fought to get back on but just couldn't do it, even with a 4.5wkg effort. I managed to get massive jump of 2 watts to my threshold though, progress!!
I wondered where you went lyrikal. I think I might have been the cause of the pace increase up that climb. Had a few goes at trying to break the pack up but no one seemed to want to go with me (legs too tired to go solo).
I only, only just caught you scardypants. Stuffed my timing again and had to bridge a gap to get a draft in the sprint. Nearly gave up and was very close to throwing up when I finished.
Was a fun race. Made a nice change after too many NY races where I was outclassed.
I stole the alias from Steve McQueen
Ah, sounded strangely familiar !
Saw you off the front once or twice nixie - no way was I coming along 🙁
(adds): I didn't look but I assume it can't have been "full" draft or I'd never have got back on, even with my special hat on
😀
I'm glad the 'D' who crossed the line first got an upgrade! 1000+W is no D!
I was able to SMASH out nearly 450 in the sprint, I think
Nixie I saw you go earlier and considered jumping across to you. I felt good at that time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I'm not so sure I'd have been any help to you though. Was 1000 watts his sprint output? I'm asking because when I'm chasing green jerseys I've been able to get to 20 wkg and that pleased me. Unfortunately my FTP isn't good enough to let me contest a good bunch sprint to see. I think my best 15s output on ZP is 13wkg. Means nothing though if the race is more than 15 seconds, they tend to be!
1000W was his max output according to the graphs on ZP.
20w/kg is bloody good. Most I think I've had is 1100W which is 13W/kg for me. That's peak as well no sustained. If you can do 13W/kg for 15s I'd have thought you'd be good in a sprint.
Scardypants, ZP shows you hitting nearly 700 and hold 600 for 10s
308’s bloody good – you a B ?
yer mid pack B, upgraded from a top end C since early September
up the Alpe this evening, everything from 4:30 to 25:20 (minutes) was a power PR - now at 295w FTP - 6w increase - tried to fit the ride in with the mrs at work and being home with the kids, however their tablets locked out at 8pm and i was too sweaty to use the touch screen to sort it, so i was distracted by their messing and whining in the background, missed a PR by about 1:50, bloody kids
Completed Peel cycling Sunday Chase. Results indicated 12th overall. Got a bit confused - we passed the group in front, then got caught, but for some reason I didn't twig, and thought it was the riders we had just passed coming through for a last hurrah. Couple of C's jumped on and were gone before I realised it was the faster group. Would have been interesting to see if I could have kept up. Always a next time.

First race in a month today (have done other stuff but more workout based). Didnt have much time so jumped on the WBR one lap race at 13:05. Was a really fast pace (for me anyway). Just went for it. I started to tire towards the end but was in a group of C's and D's for the first part and then dropped them apart from one for the second half.

Ended up winning the D and beating some C's as well so pretty pleased with that for a 15 min race!
Hit my highest heart rate at 180bpm and highest average power for a race (which I should achieve for such a short race). Going to look at doing one tomoz night as well. Probably KISS First or Second Base at 8pm. Innsbruck tomorrow. Havent done that for a while so looking forward to seeing if I have made any improvement!
Good stuff, Robbo !
More mid-pack akshun for me tonight (and also D Hall STW in the race up ahead of me - who's that ?)
Seems that even if I try to save energy running up to a sprint I've got well under half of what I can do when I'm rested. More practice and maybe some weird workouts needed, I think (or just maybe some MTFU)
D Hall STW in the race up ahead of me – who’s that ?
That'll be me 🙂
Enjoyed that one. Got dropped by the front group on the first big climb, then was in a small group, 3 of whom escaped with about 10k to go, then dragged a couple of lazy gits back to two of the escapees, then attacked after catching them, got caught, then one of chasers counter attacked, who I caught, then beat them in the sprint. Never had so much go on in the last 5k of one of these things!
Gradually getting better at these after having the summer off. Desperately need a fan though as I completely overheat once I got above 300W.
seems you "need" a HRM too daz - you've been "filtered" 🙁
Fustrating day for me. Really want to get on the bike but my legs are so stiff after parkrun yesterday. Definitely need a bit of rest so spent the time doing some very painful foam rollering instead. I may get up at 5.30 when my wife's alarm goes off and do a easier pace training ride and stretching (otherwise I know I'll try to race in the evening).
Yeah I always get sacked by WBR. I really don't know why, it's not like I worry any podiums, and all my results are pretty consistent. I guess some people are a bit precious about mid-table mediocrity 🙂
Just the lack of a HRM I think.
Since when did a HRM become obligatory on WBR races? I thought it was only A's or those in the top 3 who needed them? All a bit daft really when if you want to cheat all you have to do is lie about your weight, and I'm sure many do.
@dazh I got DQ'ed for no HRM on a race which clearly said HRM not required so think they make up their own rules!
Did the KISS First Base race last night - 2 laps of Innsbruck Ring. Forgot how tough the little climb is! Still first lap went out hard and got into a decent group at the front all the way to the climb. The climb broke us up a bit and I think I was about 3/4 group on the road after that with 3 other riders. We caught another rider on the way to the finish line. Second lap I was feeling the effects of my first lap and managed to stick with the group until the cobbled section when they went away from me. Another rider caught me on the climb and I managed to stay within a few seconds of them until the final straight when they were able to pull out to about 10 seconds and I had nothing left in the tank.
The good news is that most of the other people above me got bumped to a C (and one A) so I actually finished 3rd of those classified as D so I prob couldn't have gone much faster and stayed as a D anyway.

I did a hilly one yesterday due to timings... I have no idea why i do hilly ones every now and again... I'm rubbish at hilly ones 🙂
I did set a PR up it though which was nice, but not nice enough i have to admit.
First race for a month at the weekend. 4 flat Watopia laps. 3Cs escaped with a big effort to latch onto the Bs. Never got the pens but I assume As and Bs get the 2 front pens then us slow ones the next 2. Too much of a gap before we got off the pier to catch the front group.
Decent group gaining time on those behind. It waned on lap 3 and I was sat doing under 200 watts with my heart rate dropping so went to the front and made people work again. Problem was I checked out the Cs pre registered and there were lots of heavyweights with 300w FTPs.
Big effort to hang near the front on the climb up after the sprint then went too late in the finish sprint and used the aero too late and I was picking up minor placings at the back of the group. Only one of the Cs up the road stayed a C.

Anyone else in for the 10:45?
Office today... looking at whatver one is about 3pm that's the 4 lap volcano CCW.
I did a Zwift academy ride yesterday as it was a group ride, advertised at 2-2.5w/kg... It was daft. The first 10 mins even grou riding i averaged 264w... So best part of 3w/kg LOL.... Me being a big bloke that was me getting the advantage too of course, so some lighter guys would have been over 3.5wkg just to hang in. It settled down and i spent time going forward and back and dragging dropped riders into the bunch just for fun really... .But i still to this day wonder why people do group rides advertised as D and then destroy everyone. Go racing !
That's the first time i've ever bailed on a race! ~10 mins in and halfway up box hill and just wasn't feeling it at all. another 40 mins of being rubbish wasn't really appealing :/
Scaled - i wondered what had happened to you, i assumed for a long time you were far ahead but i did wonder if you had dropped off. That was a fast race, i tore my legs off to get up box hill in 6:44 only to be still over 30s behind lead group. As it turns out i was in a very small group and we were the lead B so not all bad. I finished 2nd in the end although i didnt appear on the final report so i hope to god that wasnt in vain. ZP seems to be down so i cant check.
Anyone else noticed the cat boundaries listed on the ZP events page have changed again.
6:44 is mighty impressive. !!!
What's changed Nixie and to what ? on the companion app i'm still seeing standard numbers for my race later.
Ah bugger, if i'd seen you Blader i'd have made more of an effort! 😀
On the ZP events page it's gone back to 4Wkg for A, 3Wkg for B etc but there is now a once in 30day over limit allowance (B is 4.2Wkg for example).
When I looked the other day there was a much more complex set of rules listed.
The zwift categories haven't changed.
I noticed it was saying something like 3.4 for B or 4w/kg for 5 mins AND 200watts for 5 mins.
Down for maintenance for me at the moment.
6.44 for box hill is nice work.
I did the KISS 8 laps volcano CCW with full draft last night. Plenty of other BRT riders on. Pace was brutal. Clocked two PBs for the lap in the first three laps (20s faster than previous best). FoudlCou keep it up though and got dropped along with another BRT rider on lap four.
Post drop I found it easier to settle and got into a nice rhythm. We circulated together till lap 7 when the B group caught up. I then hid a little in the pack hoping the help the team B riders on the sprint. Didn't quite work out that way though as I'd burnt way too many matches early on.
Finished off with three extra laps at 3Wkg to cool down, practise maintaing spin up hill transition and to hit 50km. After a few days rest my power levels have recovered and my A cat is back (had been demoted on 30 day results).
bit of a break from racing, went up the KOM climb on Sunday, just spun up and got a PR, dead comfy, 2 13 hours shifts Monday/Tuesday, so thought id have a decent go up it tonight, 317w for 20 minutes, giving me a new FTP of 301 happy days!! knocked 2:35 of my PR from Sunday, which is again another 2 minutes on top quicker than i was in February
Am half way through week 2 of the 6 week ftp builder, thurd session in a row today and feeling it.
I set the ftp at 210w which would put me about 2w/kg some of the numbers on here are stagering.
@bigdean I wouldn't worry (and I'm sure you don't "worry") about other peoples' numbers as we're all weight-doping anyway 😉
That 6wk programme really toughens up towards the end so watch yourself - I did it this time last year and had to sneak a few days off
Usual race for me yesterday, Volcano CCW 4 lapper.
Went off with group 1... stayed in there for a lap and a half, 35 of us ! massive group. Onto 2nd time up the kick to the finish the big A beasts left us for dead and we split... I settled into the next group with 4 others... we were then caught the lap after by a group of 4.. So i think 8-9 of us. Pace was hot and PR pace for me with mid 5:30s-5:40 laps of the CCW. Onto the final lap i knew i wasn't beating ANY of my group up the hill, on the little kicks previously you can see who's strugging and who isn't and i knew i was suffering the most 🙂 So as we hit the last kick to finish i checked the list and had 1min plus on the rider behind, so i just spun it to the line...
Ended up with a 3rd after the shuffle... but a very weak 3rd IMO. The course with that kick up just hurts me...
Awesome work Dirtyrider 🙂 Well done.
Keep going Dean, it was only 18 months ago i thought getting out of 2.0w/kg would be impossible, now i cruise at more than that
