They needed a hit to keep them warm in St Moritz and Benidorm, so they could split, and then reform...

Didn't make it to the last show but the other ones have been mint.... 20 years since 1992 came out, makes me feel old but luckily going to a Carter gig makes me feel young since i'm pretty much the youngest person there 🙂

I've only managed to get to the first brixton reunion show in 2007, which was supposed to be a one off 😛 anyway it was brilliant and I'll have to make an effort to get to the next one, which knowing my luck will be 2013.

Still love listening to their music from the early stuff to Worry Bomb which has some of my favourite tracks 🙂

Kind of a weird one for me - think I love them, then get bored of listening to them quite quickly.

Just heard this on Absolute 90's - love it....

never a fan glad they are milking their fan base though...seems to be the way of late for bands...did they always used to reform for money or is this a modern thing due to gig prices?

Some bands like New Model Army are still going, never stopped writing and performing. Went to see them just before Xmas and they still had it.

Hmm, don't really agree with the above quote; although I can see where you're coming from. When the idea first got suggested there was HUGE interest from the fans on the forum hence the two gigs (glasgow\brixton) were announced and they sold out very very quickly given who Carter are and the last time played, no current media exposure etc.

That was supposed to it; a one off. However, following those gigs, there was a lot of pressure from the fans who did\couldn't\didn't make these gigs for the boys to do the same again the next year, which I believe they were reluctant to do, but given the interest they repeated it. This did annoy some fans and accusations of 'cashing in\milking it were made.

A weird bonus of being a fan of Les's other band (Abdoujaparov, some of you might recognise the name 😉 ) is that I've spoken with Les and he never came across as a person who would cash in in this way.

tbh it was as much a dig at bands in general than them but I stand corrected

Reckon no good comes from seeing bands I loved in my younger days, better to leave those memories intact, but am still very tempted by this one. Still listen to their albums a fair bit, makes good tunes for a session on the turbo though I get a bit out of breath as the temptation to sing along is too much!

Also for fans recommend picking up a copy of "Goodnight Jim Bob", a fun read about life in the band.

Yeah I do know what you mean, wasn't having a go at you; but I guess this is one of my favourite bands so am a bit precious 😳

MrBlooby, yeah, seeing a band from your yoof could be disappointing. Whilst (as I said above) this is one of my favourite bands I never got to see them back in the day, so in fact I've only seen them the once 😳 however, going by those who saw them previously then by all accounts you will not be disappointed.

If you look at the videos on youtube of brixton, you can that the crowd is bouncing around from the front right through to the back, when I was there not one person seemed to 'just stand'

Was working as event security at Leeds Poly in about 95-96? CarterUSM were the loudest band that played the Ents hall in the 18 months I worked there, more so even than Tim Utah doing a sound check before a gig elsewhere.
Deaf for a day or two, almost painfully loud!

Having seen them a few times back in the day, I'm surprised my ears aren't still ringing 🙂 Some of the best gigs I've been to.

Bellerophon, thanks for posting the vids, really enjoyed those.

I picked up 101 Damnations on the first Big Cat release in 1989 just 'cause I liked the name/sleeve. They quickly became one of my favourite bands and I saw them play all over the place.

I was at the gig where they filmed the video for Bloodsport for All - and my mate's Mum spotted me stage diving in the clip they used on Top of the Pops - so rang my Mum to grass on me!

The gig in Glasgow in 2007 was amazing - proper loud, awesome vibe and up there in my top gigs off all time.

Saw them in Birmingham in 2008 as well - fantastic, not quite as good as Glasgow but close.

Then again, my memory aint what it used to be and I don't get out quite as often these days...

For two blokes and a drum machine, it's impressive ain't it 8)

generally agree - probably about 4 yrs ago went to see UB40 as a social thing and the only stuff the crowd cheered was the love song big hits I'd forgetten they'd done
somebody gave me a ticket for Echo and the Bunnymen and though they did a couple of old hits seemed like they'd moved on and was a good gig rather than saturday night at the palladium

as to Carter USM - one of my favourite encores and a great cover, especially at 56 seconds -shear muscial power - sadly sound only so if anyone can find as video

Still got a Carter Tour shirt when I saw them at Uni in 1991. A tad tight now, mind. Think i picked up a twisted ankle that night after a stage dive fail.

Can't see the videos at work - is the reunion back to just the two of 'em? IIRC towards the end of their original run they expanded the line-up - live drummer, additional guitarist(s) or suchlike.

Saw them back in the day ('92ish at Bradford Uni) and, my word, they were bloody good.

I'd echo the reluctance to revisit great bands of your youth thing - I'd rather remember how they were, than how they are now trying (and failing) to capture something that has gone (Jane's Addiction, I'm looking at you...)

Cash ins? There's been a few - funny how within a year of the global moneygeddon of 2007 quite a few bands who'd broken up with some rancour, and whose members were on record as vociferously and consistently stating that they would never go back to the past announced [s]quick cash grabs[/s] hotly anticipated live reunion dates. Rage Against the Machine, Faith no More and The Police, I'm looking at you....

It was for the gig I went to, but they only played the first couple of albums, can't say for the ones since. I notice last november they played tracks from worry bomb, whether they got Wes the drummer on stage I dunno...

EDIT: having just read that, I wasn't much help, ho hum 🙄

I remember feeling cheated when I found out they used a drum machine, not a real drummer.

Then cheated again when they got a drummer!

Can't win...

Was doing a youtube search for some more carter brixton videos and up popped the Sultans of Ping FC... blimey! Played there last year apparently. Saw them at a most excellent gig back in the day at (I think) Wulfrun Civic Hall. I wouldn't have thought them anywhere near big enough to play Brixton, even back in the day.

Edit: Crickey... just found the Frank and Walters... turns out they played there last year too. Everyone's at it!
