Love a container ship, they are spectacular things! But, wouldn't want one in me garden. Guess that's why my ol man used to say "never buy a house on a fjord, son"

Norway, where even giant shipwrecks look nice and a little boring.*

Remarkably it created insufficient noise or vibration to alert him to the arrival of his new guests but his neighbour was able to wake him by ringing the door bell!

According to the interviews from Norwegian TV that the Beeb showed, the doorbell didn't wake him either, the neighbour had to ring him.

Irregardless of ships on the lawn, that looks like a fantastic spot to live.

I was just thinking about this from an insurance point of view.

"Impact" would be the peril, but household policies don't specifically cover impact by boats, from what I can see. Well, unless they fall off a car or from an aeroplane.ย

So, if boat hits house, you'd have to have accidental damage cover in force to pay for the damage, or you'd try to sue for negligence.ย

With aeroplanes it's easy, as (IIRC) the operator is strictly liable at law for damage. But vessels, I've no idea.

Allegedly, the helmsman on this particular occasion dropped of to sleep at the wheelโ€ฆ

Powered straight in, probably on autopilot, and missed the right turn. Youtube "What's Going on With Shipping" has the detail

Now, that's a webaddress you need to take care when typing in.ย

Strangely, my renewal has just appeared and I think that it's under "vehicles".

Being a few miles from the sea that shouldn't be a problem for us, but I was relieved to see that I'm also covered for buildings damage caused by being hit by animals, which is more of a worry, although we're also a few miles from a herd of elephants ๐Ÿ™‚

I still giggle when I think of the photo I took of my wife in Amsterdam which I then shared at every opportunity. She was stood in front of a tour boat building. It had a big sign saying Lovers Canal Cruises. Obviously I ensured her head was lined up to obscure rs C.ย
I am so immature.ย

Yeah, I doubt a boat is a vehicle under insurance companies' get-out rules!

Buildings hit by animals? Bird hitting window is the usual one. I've also heard about a cow pushing over a shed, and - fantastically - a cow stepping into a garden pond for a drink and puncturing the liner...

Have you ever seen Speed 2? 😁
