So. Shiny new HTC Hero arrived yesterday. I installed latest version of HTC Sync on my laptop. The handset status bar shows USB and Sync icons but reports that it can't find HTC Sync on my PC. I just called HTC support and they said re-install Windows. Surely f'ing not? Any else had a similar problem?

(Dell Precision M6300, Windows XP)

What do you need HTC Sync for? I have a Magic and it does everything over the internet or directly with my Mac. Is there some reason you need Sync with Window?

Ian - I need to syncronise with Outlook - address book and calendar.

29er - It won't let me get that far...

Also - HTC support FAQ says to check the ROM version. But I can't see this listed in the "about phone" listing. Is it the same as the Build Number?

Should have got the HD2 with WM on it, it works a treat with Outlook 😀

Android system is nice though!

Thank you cyclelife. As did my 3 previous phones...

Message just received from HTC support

"Unfortunately the current version of HTC Sync is not compatible with Windows XP service pack 3. There is a new htc sync version coming out in about 2 weeks however since I've not seen a changelog for this I can't guarante that it will work with SP3, but I would still suggest you keep an eye on htc.com for the new version to show up there"

FFS, looks like it's being sent back to Orange then.

eh?? i've got xp service pack 3 and it works with mine!

I got mine 3 days ago and did have problems with the PC seeing the HTC phone but did a few restarts and it seems fine now.

Is it just showing 'disconnected' in the bottom right?

trickyD - yes it is. I've removed and re-installed HTC sync and restarted. Still no joy.

Try plugging in the USB then turning the phone off, then back on again after it reboots it should then sync.

Mine never syncs just by plugging it in

Use this to sync you calendar and contacts with a google account and sync that with your phone.

https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gappssync

No need to connect your phone to your PC then.

Seems the elegant solution to me.

Try installing MS active sync first and then try again
