Anybody used this- it says some of the buses will carry bikes and have racks. Is that the norm or end up waiting for several while one turns up with a rack?

Most do.

The app tells you what bus is due next and wether it takes bikes.

Busy times and single deckers are a bit hit and miss but the double-deckers have two permanent bike racks.

Where you getting on?

FYI I have hard of people being refused if the bikes are absolutely mockit.

My partner uses it to commute with a bike, I'd say it works three times out of four. Trying to get on the bus, in Edinburgh at rush hour with a bike, definitely not a given. She's had to wait an hour a few times til it gets a bit quieter (she's a few stops out the centre so it's already had chance to fill up).

Into Edinburgh much easier.

Hahaha! Really! Did you really need a translation? Even if you've never heard of it before, if you say it out loud, it even sounds dirty.

I'm a Sasanach from the Midlands and even I know what that means.

Yeah Finbars wife has experienced my experience.

To be fair the biggest issue I have had was drivers being arsy about it when they are busy. One was particularly unpleasant as I tried to get on at bush, he was giving it the "you must be joking, no chance it's to busy" I pointed back to the empty space that all the surly hoodies had vacated to make room.

Out of interest, how many bikes will a bus carry?

@gauss1777 If it’s Borders Buses I thought it was 2 on a single decker and 4 on a double decker - linky

The double-deckers have two permanent racks and two additional "you may have to give this up to pushprams and wheelchair racks"

@finbar, by any chance is your wife's bike a small white road bike which used to have a wobbly bottle cage.

Because whoever belongs to that bike it was me who tightened it up đŸ˜€

I've heard some stories of people using the bike space for luggage and therefore no bike allowance, ie it's just space for anything that will take a bike, but no priority.

Similarly, a friend used it to get from the Bush for a ride in Inners, came back muddy and the driver was fine and friendly. But I wouldn't take the piss with that.
