Anyone see the BBC documentary 'Wounded'?. Pretty moving stuff.
Really quite amazing how these guys coped so well with such horrific injuries - I can't imagine how I'd deal with something like that.
It's also incredible how the someone can even survive injuries as extensive as those, especially considering where they where when they we wounded.
It puts things into perspective really.
Yeah, there was a thread about this last night - it was a pretty moving program.
I was really impresed by their upbeat attitude & how they recovered. Makes you realise the risks that they face.
my brother is an army medic and was in afghanistan last year. I watched the program with a particular interest in seeing the kind of guys he has saved. I thought the show was well made, and it was indeed very impressive to see the attitude of so many of the wounded guys. The tennis match left me speechless.
Of all the places I served in my 12 years in the RAF, Headley Court was the one where, even though a minor player, I felt most proud of being involved with. The courage of the people I met whilst going about my duties never failed to amaze me, nor the average squaddies like for using gallows humour at the drop of a hat. It was a cracking program which brought to light the often forgotten human cost that doesn't return home beneath a Union Flag. On a personal note it was nice to see Kate (Sherman) on TV as I always had a bit of a thing for her, even if she did hide the decent biscuits in the tea bar.
I didn't see the programme (couldn't bring myself to watch), but I have heard a statistic recently that said that 98% of soldiers during the 2nd World War that made it away from the battlefront medics still alive went on to survive.
An amazing statistic.
