These can’t be comfortable.

The most “far from home” that I have ever felt was in an industrial complex in rural China in 2001, when a military/security type took my passport. He looked about 14 years old and was all teeth and machine gun. He was wearing a properly massive hat.

I got the passport back a couple of hours later from a chap who was less shouty, with no visible machine guns and a much smaller hat. Not a happy day.

Since then I have had a deep mistrust of people who project authority through the medium of automatic/nuclear weapons and daft hats.

This old dear has a quality milliner, the fit seems most appropriate.
