Hi so we have two people working from home for local authorities, different organisations, using email, office documents, live data systems and MS teams for conference calls - very often at the same time and pretty much consistently through the day.
Our provided is talk talk - we have just got a new router from them.
Our house is 1900 terrace with us both using upstairs space, WiFi is in the hallway as high as we can get it. Walls are relatively thick.
Our speed is
Response time 47ms
Download 4.7mbps ( generally seems right)
Upload 0.4 mbs
There is only broadband where we live, no fibre from any provider.
Connectivity is rubbish, slow speeds, delays, turning the video off on calls but actually that is not a option on some conferences. We can sit by the router and it isrubbish, connected ethernet cable still crap. Used a neighbour's WiFi equally rubbish?
What are options please?

That's probably not so much a wifi problem, as a broadband problem. I doubt you'd ever have much luck with more than one call on at a time.
I'd probably look at 4G connections, or have another landline put in.
How are you measuring the speed? What speed does your router say it is connected at?
Is the router plugged in directly to your main phone socket? Worth trying that. If it is connected through a long extension cable in your house, that could cause problems. And try unplugging any other phones.
What does Uswitch say is available to your postcode?
5ish Meg is poor, you will always struggle to do what you are aiming to do with that bandwidth.

How do I find out router speed as I have done the test on talk talk website and which website...??
Ask your employer(s) for 4g dongle(s) if that is def max can get over landline...must be pretty stressful

Are you running a VPN? I get over 200mbs normally but it will drop to 3-4 through the VPN (Nord).
Also, have you considered an ethernet cable directly to the router.
#1. WiFi and broad band connection are two different things. Sounds like a broadband connection not a WiFi issue.
#2. Is it better at different times of the day I e off peak. If so then is may be connection sharing with other people near by. If this is th case is the providers have better connection ratios such as zen.
I would log into the router by going to 192.168.1.1 and entering the admin login and password on the sticker on your router. I would then see what the router believes the connection speed to be.
I’d then compare this with U Switch or similar to see how reasonable that speed is for your postcode.
If it’s miles out and it’s plugged into the master socket with the supplied cable and filter I’d call TalkTalk and log a service call.
We have a non fibre TT pack that’s only about 12mb and that is ample for two of us on video calls, home school and film streaming simultaneously.
I’m sure the two VPN services used by the LA are not helping matters.
Remove the faceplate from the NTE5 (master socket). Plug the router directly into the test socket behind the faceplate using the supplied cable and no extensions. If you cannot do either of these things we need to why.
Disable Wi-Fi on the router and connect one device only via Ethernet. Well, in the opposite order! Reboot the router. Do not connect to any VPNs. How's it look then?
