Looks like my post asking for advice on RM's current status as an employer got deleted - sorry mods, didn't realise 'paging' threads where now a deletable offence. 😳

Anyway, I know a couple of folks responded initially with very helpful information and I responded to them, but I was just wondering if anyone else had added to the comments? If so, I'd really appreciate it if you could re-post em!

Cheers

{ From the rules: "No ‘Paging…’ threads. They only gum up the forum. If a user wants to be contacted their email address will be on their profile page."

Best to avoid 'Paging' in the title, Orena - try a rephrase? - Mod}

Ahh, I wondered what happened to it.
I thought for a bit that the all-powerful hands of the organisation had managed to silence any bad publicity ( a visit to the mods from Crozier's shock troops?) 🙂
The upshot of my slight rant was: unless your really unhappy in your present job, DONT DO IT!, If you're basing your idea of Working for RM on what it was like a few years ago you are in for a rude awakening. Things have changed, and more insecurity and change is on its way.
I also think that Royal Mail is probably only offering parttime contracts, as any positions vacant through redundancy, people leaving and sackings are only filled by P/T staff( though you'll be forced to work, likely unpaid, near fulltime hours if my office is anything to go by)
It was quite an enjoyable job with a reasonable work/ life balance a few years ago, but the workload is now not really do-able within your working day. One of my managers has suggested that its a job you do for just a couple of years before burning yourself out!
When managers start admitting stuff like that you know the future isnt looking good.

Yeah no worries mod - I looked on the forum rules when I saw it had been deleted and realised the error of my ways! 😆

Thanks for the re-post West Kipper, very helpful insight. Despite the 20hr/week contract, I'd be looking to work full-time hours but anything more than that wouldn't be ideal with new family commitments. Might have a re-think!

Aye, I'm just talking about things as I see them in my region.
Us full timers often moan (hey, its da rooles!) but I've really not been impressed with the way that newstarts and part-timers get messed about and pressured in a way that we dont get so much.
They may be scheduled to be on one walk, then after having prepped it, will be moved without notice onto another, then as their about to leave with their mail, may be sent to another office to start again!, and methods will be used to ensure they complete their, by-now, late route.
