MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I am disposing of the workshop of a carpenter who has passed away. As much as possible the stuff is going to good causes. He had quite a collection of interesting books on the subject from greenwood chairs to ships figureheads. I believe that some of you have an interest in the art, and if you would be interested pls email me in profile and I will met you have some details of what is available. Postage cost, and prefereably a token charitable donation would be appreciated.
Hi - that's a nice gesture. There is a wealth of knowledge and skill in woodworking and if it can be passed on either during a lifetime or after then that's a great thing IMO. My (very limited) skill has benefitted from odd hand-me-downs (books, tools etc) over the years, but if nobody else wants them and you can't find somewhere/someone local that would benefit then I might be interested if you're happy to send. I'll send you an email later today in any case as I like finding inspiration in old books etc.
That is a nice gesture - would the books be of greater use as a collection than distributed though? There are some interesting charities around that focus on woodwork and crafts training for the disadvantaged for instance - round my neck of the woods theres Galgael and Glasgow Wood Recycling for instance and it might be helpful to organisations like that to provide them with a bit of a library - maybe theres something similar local to you
OK ta, will let you know/check it out
Hi, I teach furniture making at Warwickshire college in Leamington spa. We are always very grateful for such things which can be a great resource for our students.
^ the galgael project is a good one having come across them a few times in the past. Locally to me there are similar projects working with addicts/ recovering addicts who are learning skills in furniture making, and another that helps disabled people to learn retoration skills etc. The other place I thought could make use of them, as kayak suggests, would be a college/ HE place with cabinetmaking, restoration, scuplture (etc) courses. I have no idea what is local to you, but it might be nice for them to go somewhere with a connection to their owner if there is somewhere that fits the bill.
Thanks for the emails chaps, I'm gonna photo/list them and well get them distributed to projects/you people who will appreciate them!
Shout out for these guys http://m.localgiving.com/charity/dukeriescommunityworkshop
If you are in the south east this place (www.toolpost.co.uk) may be able to put you in touch with people or projects who would benefit, or local clubs who would be prepared to contribute. Admittedly they are a shop but they have always been very community minded in the past.
