What's more secure from peoples experience?

Seen a lot I fancy putting up at around the £400-£500 mark that I could fit our 3 bikes in, just want one that's as secure as possible.

After some bike thefts from wooden sheds in the area, I've looked at this link.
In the meantime i've add some extra security such as a shed security bar, although as my 7 yo son said, I'd just smash through the side of the shed with the axe. 😕

Get the one that looks nicest - if they want what's inside they'll find a way in.

You're probably right, don't think much can stop them. Seen a metal shed with a base, think I'll dig it down and conrete some ground anchors in that. Annoys me that I'm pretty much helpless to defend my things.

For that sort of money I'd be surprised if you got a metal shed that a pair of aviation snips couldn't handle. I'd personally spend the money making sure the bikes were well stuck down before worrying what was keeping them dry.

As the owner of a cheapish metal shed (yardmaster TOTR), I wouldn’t bother – severe condensation in winter and doors that can be blown off their rails in a bad storm. Tin snips would easily get through it and it’s kept together with phillips screws with the screw on the outside so anyone with a screwdriver could be in 10 mins (it would be noisy though).

I’m not sure a wooden shed at that cost would be any more effective though.

I had a 10×12 metal shed at my old place. Nightmare to assemble. Once up you'd ideally want to concrete it in place, insulate the roof, fit a vent or two if poss and get some proper security on the doors. A wood shed would be less hassle and aesthetically more pleasing (as well as a fair bit more for a good quality one) but with a properly secured metal shed there's no quiet way of breaking in to one. Served me well but if I did it again and had the cash I'd go for wood.

An old refrigerated cargo container, the short ones? Already insulated, so condensation shouldn't be an issue.

I've got a £400 metal shed that I could break into with my bare hands, and a £1200 assguard that seems slightly more secure than my house. You pays yer money etc..

Personally I would spend the money on some serious mounting point and a serious chain

Even then a hacksaw gets through your frame in seconds

I've an Asgard with a Double Doofer ground anchor and BIG chain. Way more secure than a wooden shed (but no shed is impenetrable). Asgard is top quality and well put together. No problems with condensation. Has the added advantage of acting like a loud drum when opening it, so attacking with a grinder is going to attract attention.

For £500 you can get an "Asgard" style steel shed/box made by your local engineering firm, I did and got one made in heavier grade steel with a much better locking system, plus 2 anchors welded inside

I got a large Asgard shed a few years ago after my old wooden shed was broken into a couple of times (though the thieves never got beyond a pathetic attempt to hacksaw a Fahgettaboudit chain). I fitted a bolt-down ground anchor next to each side wall. There's been no problems with condensation and it feels pretty solid. As sgn23 says I get the feeling that any attempt to get into it would make so much noise that someone would have a look and scare the intruders off.

It is an expensive and not particularly subtle option, though.

IMO it depends whether you want to advertise the fact that you have something of value in your garden.

Putting metal in imediately tells scrotes you have value.

I just have a garden shed with small windows in it (too small to get through)

I accept that scrotes will break in if they want to. However they wont see any bikes, only one of these, and by that point the alarm will have gone off. This has stopped my bikes being nicked in the past 🙂

Hmmm, been looking at shipping containers now, not very asthetically pleasing! But I could grow plants/ivy all over it pretty quickly.

most old shipping containers not very secure - speaking as someone who has to break into them quite regularly when the yard sends us out with the wrong keys. They stick on nice strong padlocks - how ever the stuff the padlocks are locked to are quite brittle.

large hammer has you in in 2 hits in the right place.

for 500 quid you can build a VERY secure wooden shed using the sawmill for your supplies it just wont be massive - think 6x4 - just bike sized really

anything you buy off the shelf for that money will have 8mm shiplap which you could get into with a leatherman if you so wished.

keep the outside looking shed like.

secure the inside.

anything else makes it look like you have shit to steal.

Have you thought about concrete sectional buildings , my garage is with a metal door, condensation is no worse than my wooden shed , and you can get them in small sizes , windowless , wood doors or metal , you do need a good base good access and difficult to self erect on the downside
