Not wanting to deviate from STW stereotype. Mrs Merak and I have gone and bought our first house. (Its not timber framed) Just wondered if anyone in the Glasgow area had any experience of fitters stove installers?

Have to present costings to the boss before green light is given. 🙂

Be prepared to be quoted, 'quite a lot'.

Look carefully at how the job is estimated. Mrs MC went to a woodburner shop for a quote. The stove itself was well priced (£1k) but the fitting, flue and wood beam above the fire made it all up to about £5k. We ended up buying the stove but sourcing everything else online plus a bit of mahogany from the FiL's woodshed and got someone else to fit it. It worked out a lot cheaper, more like £2k and that included the most robust multi-burn flue with the longest guarantee. Had some good results on Ebay getting a vintage copper and brass coal scuttle and a brush set. Now got to look at buying/constructing a log shed.
