Having some problems with my wireless router, sometimes nothing can see it, at other times everything will connect, then loose it completly. Is the router on the way out or is there something else I should look at?

Sounds like interference! Have you tried a different wireless channel?

Interesting comment, I changed the channel from 6 to 7 a few days ago as there seemed to be a few local networks on 6, all seemed well for a few days so i had not connected it to this problem.

You may need to try a few channels to find this best one.

The only channels with no overlap are 1, 6 and 11 - try those.
