Just done a clean re-install of Windows 8.
What do I need to download
Spyware protection etc.
Laptop has McAfee on replace with Avast ?

Malewarebytes is a good starting point, free for regular DIY scans (don't choose the pro trial that they try to get you to use, even half way through installing the free version) or its cheap enough to buy the pro version with constant scanning protection.
I'm happy to use MS security essentials for AV porpoises
Dump McAfeee and Avast - MS Defender works well. Couple that with something like Malwarebytes, ccleaner and a healthy avoidance of iffy websites and emails and it will be sweet.
If you get 8.1 it has Defender built in.
Windows 8 appears to have Defender.
Uninstall McAfee first ? then turn on Defender, as its turned off at mo due to McAfee.
