Plan to wild camp but after a place to wild camp, get a small fire going etc near to blackwood, the Brecons/black mountains are too far for what time I have. Has anyone camped on Cwmcarn or any surrounding areas near to there?
Why such a short distance?
Going to BPW first so won't have a great deal of time and need to get back early the following day so need to stay close
How far are you prepared to travel from a vehicle? If you want to "bike pack" in to a suitable site I can point you to a wonderful location, but not prepared to do so on open forum

WF and Molly are closer than me, they know the area well. PM me if need be though. You'll wake early at this time of year though, so you probably have more time available.
