Another rider is attempting to make themselves dizzy by turning left for an hour.
Who's excited?
How far do we think he'll get?
Will he throw his toys out the pram if something goes wrong?
FWIW I think he's going to try and blow the record completely out of the water and if he's having a good day I wouldn't be surprised to see 55km.
I've got tickets to go and watch him try - so I hope he smashes it!
Is it on the telly box?
Yes it's on Sky Sports
Ta
I had a cunning plan to be at Lee Valley this weekend ,with no ticket I had hoped that there would be a giant screen out side the velodrome.
London trip got cancelled ,but I will still be excited watching it on the telly 🙂
Those that attempt the hour seldom reach their predicted target. I really hope he does well but Wiggins is just as human as all the others so the pain will get him in the end (Dowsett could be excluded from this).
Just read that this will also be free to air on freeview channel pick. Sky spreading the love etc..
I think Dowsett's plan was only ever to just break it. He definitely looked like there was more in the tank when he'd finished. I'd quite like to see a battle between Wiggins and Dowsett!
I'm also intrigued to see how someone like Tony Martin gets on, he can definitely bury himself for the hour but his lack of track experience might let him down.
Quite looking forward to this, I'm due to do a trainer road 20min test and this seems a perfect accompaniment.
An eye on Boardman's superman record (here). Can't see it myself but that would be something.
the record will be blown out the water
or his bike thrown out the velodrome.
either way itll be good viewing.
Wiggins saying that air pressure is crucial
Unfortunately the current forecast suggests high pressure centered just west of UK, with pressure in London on the night likely to be 1030MbA lot of the hour record is dictated by temperature and air pressure. Air pressure is everything. The weather forecast for the first week in June is abnormally low pressure for London for that time of year, which is fantastic. That has dictated everything. You could go a kilometre either way depending on air pressure
Does make you wonder why they don't go do it at altitude. It's just throwing away 100's of metres.

Because the logistics make the cost and hassle involved much higher, and you also have to spend time acclimatising.
I think it's also seen as "cheating" a bit - I know when Boardman did his first one he was keen to bring it back to sea level to make it more accessible (an altitude attempt would be basically impossible for somebody like Hutch, though he and a load of journos can just rock up and have a go in London or Manchester). They used to list the sea level record separately when the absolute record was held at altitude.
Yes, I did wonder if that might be part of it, bit like bagging a PB on a big gift course.
Plus, if he did it in Mexico City or somewhere, the velodrome wouldn't be packed with ageing mods and club cyclists cheering him to the rafters. All part of Sir Wiggo's 'just a poor boy from Kilburn' stuff 🙂
