Need some advice, I have rollers set up out in hallway but it is to far away from router and I keep loosing signal for iPad and phone which I use for Amazon instants and elite real. I can't move router as it is beside tv, Sky, Xbox. I have a second router so do I plug it in closer to where I need it or what kind of booster should I get.
You can plug the second router in and set it to repeater mode if it has one. It's fairly simple to set up and works well, depending on what you want to do.
Otherwise you can go with a proper repeater (which does the same job, but in a smaller package) like this one
I use the above to connect my virgin media tivo box to the WiFi rather than as a strict repeater but it works as either. There's a couple of limitations, as even though you're on the same Wifi network, you're sort of not so sometimes two different things won't talk properly but it's rare.
They are both by routers , how do I do it.
I picked up a simple little Belkin extender/repeater from Argos for around £25 recently - working perfectly so far!
I also use a wee Belkin plug in from Argos, to boost wifi out to the shed so I can live there instead of the house.

I also use a repeater, simple plug in/add in details of wifi network (PW)/done..
I expected some random and complicated Network SSID config, but no.. took about 5mins to setup.
I have two routers both with different SSIDs (so i know easily which one I'm on)
linked with powerlines.
The repeaters aren't very good, waste a lot of bandwidth and as cheap to just use your second router. If you have a long network cable, don't even need powerlines.
Needs some basic network knowledge, nothing too hard.
google slave router.
Bit of a bump but just purchased the Belkin one as recommended above and I wish I had done it years ago.
Used to struggle for a signal in the workshop but [s]streaming live porn[/s] picking up emails is effortless now.
Advice anyone? I take it you can boost a booster? I have a Duronic Extender in the office upstairs but the signal's still poor in kid2's bedroom. I'm hoping I can just piggyback a 2nd booster to pick up the signal from the first and nudge it along?
I tried a plug in booster which was pretty poor. Then I tried a second router which should have been capable of working as a repeater but would never work, and I spent a lot of time on it. Then I bought the home plugs and they were a lot better. Next I borrowed an Airport Extreme from work and plugged that into the homeplug and not only does it work really well it's actually very easy to configure. I'm just hoping no one needs the Airport back.

my router/modem (never sure which is which) is in the next building to my house, so cant connect this to it by cable.
connection is usually fine, always good enough for laptop, but my bluray player struggles with netflix sometimes and drops signal. hence buying the above as i thought it would solve it.
problem stemmed from not knowing which mode to use it on. theres a choice of.....
access point mode (default)
client mode
router mode
repeater mode
bridge mode
.....and im not sure which is the one i want. im guessing id want to plug it into socket nearest the building containing router, then use it as a booster and connect bluray to it wirelessly. that right?

Disable the DHCP on your second router so it doesn't start handing out IPs and give it an IP address outside of the range used by your principal modem/router. Set it to use a WiFi channel different from your principal router then fill in the name and password of your wireless network and you're good to go.
