We will be in touch
Bought a new Netgear DG834G a couple of weeks ago and it works perfectly with PC, HP laptop, Macbook Pro and both of our phones. But the missus has a new Lenovo Thinkpad that doesn't want to connect.
Basically, it detects the router > discovers registrars > creates an 8 digit password and asks me to enter this in the access point or external registrar?
WTF is that all about? Can't find anything at 192.168.0.1 or in the manual(s).
Router is running 64 bit WEP (no need for high security in these parts). Our other laptops just asked for the code and connected right away.
How can we fix this?
Cheers
SM
Sounds like it's using some kind of proprietary IBM connection manager software, so goodness only knows what it's talking about. Registrars?
If it were me, I might be tempted to hook it up wired first of all, and get all the IBM specific software and gubbins up to date. There's a System Update util preinstalled which covers this IIRC.
If you don't get anywhere, I'll take a look at one of our Lenovos at work tomorrow if I get chance.
its probably using the Thinkvantage software to manage the connection - see if you can disable it so that you can use the windows connection manager instead - it may make it simpler
my old lenovo thinkpad would not connect to my wireless network via think vantage even when disabled (though would work via a dongle)
my new thinkpad works fine though, not very helpful i know, i think the old one was a T41
Thanks guys
This is her company laptop (after she had her last one blown up) so I'm limited by not having admin rights. She can't even install any software on it.
Like Cougar says, it seems to be using some kind of proprietary connection manager to "override" the router's security (ish).
The irritating this is that it connected first time to my original DLink router because all it wanted was the password. So why is it now getting all stroppy? Ar5e.
