I am looking for later in the year and want somewhere I can actually afford to buy a beer so that's the alps out of the question. I understand there's some good riding in slovenia and I quite like that part of the world BUT a week is £900-£1200 not including flights! FFS. And it's all companies who do trips all over the world, no local MTB lodge types.
Do they not want us there?
Switchbacks in Spain is looking good.
Any other countries worth looking at? Any operator recommendations?

Not many towns in the Alps are Lidl free zones and they sell beer made to the German purity laws for about 70p a litre.

Thanks edukator but I'd quite like to socialise with the locals without paying £8 a pint. Don't get me wrong, I'm not after some 18-30 magaluf effort (I'm too old anyway) just a good value holiday with quality riding and a bit of life off of the trails after!

Just do it yourself. Easyjet flights, hire car, local hotel/hostel. Spain is very nice for guided riding, though.

Morocco with Cycleactive is an AWESOME holiday and worth every penny plus beer is super cheap when out there! Can highly recommend it. The riding is out of this world and not a country where you could find the riding yourself.

I was lat in slovenia 9 years ago so things may have changed, but zlatarog pivo (the one with the goat on it) was 75p a litre and 12%. Union was similar prices nu not as nice IMO. maybe just get to trieste in Italy, get the train over the border and organise it yourself?

Or Ryanair/Easyjet to Graz, Zagreb, Ljubljana. (Graz is prob cheapest for car rental).

Thanks for the advice/input.
Dave, from bikenomad;

6 days guiding Prices from 840 €/per person

From switchbacks;
The cost of a week's 2009 holiday with Switchbacks Spain is 495€.

The white room;
21st - 28th August - £459

I just don't see why slovenia is so much more than other places, is it that their economy is very strong? There's not much difference in what you get for your money and it's all euro after all.

I dunno - I'm going back a couple of years where hiring a car that was allowed to be driven through Croatia, Slovenia, BiH was actually cheaper to do from Graz than either Slovenia or Croatia. But probably it pays to check everywhere every time, as it might well change every week.

Unfortunately the place in Ljubljana that rented out Renault 4s has closed down!

I checked last year to get my prices. This was with a reputable international chain though. 😀
