I've got Sean Lock in November. Always find him funny when I see him on telly. How he fares full stand up I'll see at the end of the year.

Big comedy festival in Bristol during the summer yunki if you ever get up this way. Bristol Comedy Garden. I think it might have grown to five nights this year Tues - weekend. Got our tickets for Stewart Lee booked. Plenty other stuff - but lots pretty mainstream - maybe a bit too much so for you. (?)

Joe Lycett was good when I saw him last week. Ed Byrne, very different but also pretty good.

Disappointed by Sean Lock when i saw him. Never got the audience on side and got bored by constant reference to what a rubbish audience we were.

Ed Byrne a couple of weeks ago - fantastic, including excellent selective (single) use of the C-bomb.

Best I've seen recently though was Henning Wehn. Depends if you get his style, but I was hurting I laughed so much.

I went to see Stewart Francis just before Christmas, he was quality, plenty of content a bit close to the bone for TV.

We've got tickets for Stewart Lee at Bristol Comedy Garden as well. Went last year and it was great.

+1 for Henning Wehn, saw him on his Eins Zwei DIY tour, properly funny. Tickets booked for his next tour too. Ramesh Ranganathan (sp?) was also good. Ed Byrne was a bit meh but my partner loved him. Marcus Brigstock was OK but a touch too polemical for my tastes.

Kind of limited to who plays in my local theatre really as my town only rarely has any other smaller comedy shows but a bit bored/down on the archetypal British middle class university educated beta, a bit lefty, a bit of a loser, a bit indy stand up comedian which so dominates your regular panel shows and therefore gets big enough to play regional theatres.

I like Steve Hughes but all the stuff I've seen of his has been the same material, hopefully he's written a new show or two.

My favourite stand up is Bill Burr, he's got a couple of specials on Netflix and has a twice weekly podcast.

Yeah, me too. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from him - being a big fan of his TV stuff but wondering how it would transfer to stage. God knows what I was thinking - it was fantastic. Have to say, I don't think I'll be bothering with the "garden" this year. Had to queue for bloody ages to get food, then the same again for a beer. Think it'll be a few scoops on King Street and head straight for the tent this time.

Went to see Tom Stade at Fruit in Hull Sunday night, thought he was v good and just a little bit different to the norm.
Considering the last time I saw a "comedian" I was thrown out for heckling and upsetting the act I thought he performed very well

Doug Stanhope, Louis CK and Jim Jeffries all worth a look if you like Steve Hughes.

Though you might have seen them on your way to Steve H.

Dan Nightingale

Saw him in York once. He was the guy introducing the 3 main acts. Blew them all off stage. Very funny bloke.

Yep Stewart Lee remains good, but possibly having a bit more difficulty now he is more high status.

Currently got tickets to see Abandoman, Trygve Wakenshaw and. Spencer Jones, as I'm trying different stuff than man with a mike... Which my partner gets tired of.

Recommends...

Solo:James Acaster, Ray Peacock, Brendon Burns, Bridget Christie (but her thing is getting a bit repetitive), Nick Helm
Musical,: Abandoman, Chistian Reilly
Sketch: Pappys, Beast, I do want to see Geins family gift shop
One liners: Gary Delaney, Milton, etc etc

The last comic I saw was a last minute work in progress in a small venue, front row, last Saturdsy, and was Michael McIntyre, technically good, I'm sure but tiring seeing a bloke spend an hour noticing and remembering things with no personal or wider comment. Not sure I'd want to go for a drink with him.

I'd love to go and see Jimmy Carr or Frankie, or Bill Burr, or Louis, just not at a big venue...

Stewart Francis is ace. He's responsible for the gag, "my dad was sacked from his job as a lollipop man for stealing on the job. I didn't want to believe it, but when I got home all the signs were there..."

My boss, He asked me to do overtime, laugh, I have not laughed so much since Aunty Mable caught her left tit in the mangle.
His follow up tour included, " you'll have to give up mountain biking because your missing work through injury".
😆 😆

Off to see Richard Herring in Bristol. He's a good mix of smart funny and puerile silliness. Doug Stanhope great as well; very close to the bone some times.

Seen Stewart Lee a couple of times, and he's great.

If you ever get a chance to see Silky jump at it, he's brilliant.

If there's a smaller venue or club near you, they're well worth supporting. If you're in North Eat England, I can recommend Hilarity Bites who put on nights at various venues.

I tend to prefer American comedians for some reason:

Louis CK
Marc Maron (really enjoying his WTF podcasts)
Patton Oswalt

Bridget Christie. She did a set a few years back about why she stopped acting in adverts. The year before about bic pens for women. Both hilarious.

Reginald D Hunter is well worth looking up, too. Little bit different to his usual panel show persona.

Yeah another for Stewart Lee, not everybody's flavour and crapstone crapstone could have been his peak but he is very very funny.

Glad somebody mentioned Tony Law as well, plain crazy 🙂
