I'll be outside my O2 store at 9am Thursday for mine. Not sure what to do with my 3G, the case is damaged around the headphone socket, after I dropped it with the 'phones plugged in, so I'd lose a fair bit if I flogged it through a recycling site. Might get it repaired then sell it.
Like......whatever 😛
Never had an iphone but I might just get one of the new ones - the first one that looks proper sorted in terms of spec for me to be interested enough to justify the outlay, especially now memory map is now iphone friendly.
I was given an Itouch at the beginning of the year and it has been a revelation around the house with wifi for quick email and internet access and using tvcatchup to watch live and iplayer to watch past television. My only concern is that the 3G network is a bit pants around the parts of the country I like to spend my time.
At my local O2 store first thing in the morning for mine tomorrow... Not cos I is a fanboi or anything, but I'll be up that time anyway (to make sure the GF gets to work ok), am not working this week, my current iPhone is out of contract, and if I don't hurry up then all the other buggers will get in before me and get theirs instead!
I wouldnt queue tomorrow its not on sale till Thursday 😀
yes most defo.
Nope, usual reasons, too expensive, locked down OS and kid on multitasking. Oh yeah, no flash is a deal breaker for me.

Good point, Thursday I meant... I'm a day ahead of myself it would seem!
Locked-down OS - 99.999% of smartphone users couldn't give a flying ****. Ditto for Flash. Adobe recently admitted to major security problems concerning Flash and Adobe Reader; do I want some cruddy CPU-hog with security issues on my phone? Not fricking likely. There isn't a single source of info on the web that uses Flash that I can't get similar info elsewhere without it. And even the porn industry is working like mad to recode to HTML5 for iPhone/iPad users. Flash can crawl into a corner and die. Along with stupid Facebook games.

As usual on the net, porn leads the way in adopting new tech. I have heard of plenty of sites optomised for display on smartphones and streaming mp4 video. (....hub..., ....mofo..., ..xshare)
To the OP: yep, we'll be getting on MrsGrahamS' 3G contract ending so time for an upgrade. 3G gets traded in to offset the cost, she gets my 3GS and I get the 4G 🙂
Switch her onto a cheaper contract and it won't actually cost any more overall. 😀

Too expensive? Well maybe if you want to buy a PAYG version yes, but if you're on a contract, and you use a lot of minutes like I do, the 16GB version is £89 up front then your normal monthly bill. Or £29 up front if I upped my monthly payments by £5... I don't really see that as a problem considering I'm going to use the minutes anyway, no matter the network or the phone I'm using, so to me at least, having an iPhone is not an expensive deal. Besides, been offered £200 for my 2 year old 16GB iPhone 3G anyway, so I'll actually be putting well over £100 in my pocket by upgrading (though of course I have to sign a new contract I understand).
The locked down OS is no problem as I happen to particularly like iOS as they're calling it. Have had it since day one on the original 2G iPhone, and I've got used to it.
Multitasking doesn't bother me in the slightest anyway, so the fact it's not proper multitasking, well... Makes no odds. How many things does a phone need to do at the same time anyway?
No Flash is about a million miles from being a deal breaker for me... Flash heavy sites can slow down my Mac or my pretty powerful PC even sometimes, so I often use a Flashdanceer within Firefox. Flash is old news, and is getting phased out...
I'll be there outside the carphone warehouse. Hope they've got some stock.
@Mat - surfwear has changed a fair bit since my day, but you look darn good in it. 😀
bol - thanks. It took me ages to find that outfit - people were queueing for hours to get hold of one 😉
Yawn, Iphone schmiphone! Android is where its at.... 8)

Balls. 😉 OED sez:
Are spellings like 'privatize' and 'organize' Americanisms?
No, not really. British spelling has always recognized the existence of variant spellings using the suffix -ize/-ise.

Bigyinn is that a joke?
konabunny:Balls.
I never let facts get in the way of a succinct rejoinder. Ballz indeed 😉
Nipping into Regent Street on the way back from work tomorrow to pick up my reservation, which should hopefully avoid any queuing and whooping and high-fiving. Quite happy with the £20/month O2 deal and as I might be away a couple of months next year getting an unlocked one would be handy.
Not sure what to do with my 3G yet.
as long as 3 gdo good deals I'll get one next week. as others have said, its the first one that really appeals to me. multi tasking, HD video recording(for my 6 week old son) and facetime (again to see my son) really sell it for me. oh yeah, it look pretty damn nice too!
Anyone laid eyes on 3's pricing yet? The other 3 have been out for a while now.
Got a txt from them on monday, said i'd be getting an email in the next few days with info.
I'm in two minds whether to get one or not. Mrs has a 3GS that I suite like, bought sim free off a mate who upgraded so she'll be getting one on voda soon as its available. Seems like voda have the best deal too for now.
Tried a sony X10 recently, but didn't get on with the touch screen at all, so kind of put me off. I'd prefer a phone with a slide out qwerty, like the upcoming droid 2. Not sure it will be released here though
I'll be getting one once the hype and hysteria has died down, and once there are plenty of consumer reviews so that I can actually see whether it's worth the extra over an HTC Desire (my other option).
Call me old fashioned, but I'm not shelling out £££s (SIM Free), or committing to an 18/24 month contract for something which hasn't been tested in the real world, by real consumers yet. At least I KNOW that the Desire is a brilliant handset already...
Hopefully there will be a few decent reviews of the iPhone by the time I go to London in mid-July.
kid on multitasking. Oh yeah, no
flash is a deal breaker for me.
I'm not exactly clear what is "kid on" about the multitasking? I can happily record a GPS route in MotionX, while listening to the radio on TuneIn Radio and making pointless posts to the forum in Safari. How is that not multi-tasking? And how is it hugely different from the way Android suspends its Java threads?
As for flash. Really? A deal breaker?
What would you miss? I have Flash switched off on my desktop browsers anyway.
I was planning getting one but it seems O2 aren't allowing over the phone upgrades.
I'm out of the country until tomorrow afternoon so unlikely to be any stock left in the stores.
maybe time to see what vodafone will offer.

Good lord do you apple people not use normal websites? Flash is everywhere.
Maybe the sheer quantity of apple users will help to promote alternatives, but don't deny it's one of the most common requirements to enjoy the web.
really? i don't miss it all on my current iphone. cant see that changing with the new one.
but don't deny it's one of the most common requirements to enjoy the web.
Just as a matter of interest - what do you count as the sites that require Flash and are essential to enjoy the web?
I ain't "apple people", i'm just someone who happens to own an iPhone (as well as Windows PC and netbook, a Red Hat laptop and a LynxOS pc at the moment).
Name me some sites that you use from your phone where flash is a vital part of the site content?
The only site I actually miss flash content on is the video on the BBC News. But they will no doubt offer HTML5 video soon anyway. In the meantime I can always watch it on iPlayer or TVCatchup instead.
I think... Not entirely sure, but I think Windows Mobile is dropping Flash streaming media and so is the new IE. Its going HTML5 and H.264 I believe, not yet, but it will be the new standard apparently.
