Major road trip upcoming and hunting for high grade supplies 😉

Tried making my own in the oven...but it wasn't great.

Anyone down south fancy selling me some? or know a good supplier?

Cheers

Make your own Biltong Box. There are loads of examples online.

I use a plastic tote, fitted with a computer fan and a light bulb. Some wooden dowels to hang the meat off.

It's not cheap, you need to use decent cuts of steak to get good results. I have used topside and silverside before but it's a little tough. I have had teh best results with rump steak.

There's a South African shop in Bristol, in St Nick's.

Where in the south?

I get mine from the Guildford shop of http://www.buysouthafricaonline.co.uk/epages/Store2_Shop1763.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Store2.Shop1763/Categories/%22Best%20Biltong%20Shops%22

Best days are late Friday or Saturday, as they have new deliveries on Friday. So you get a nice selection of wet to choose from, and it gradually dries out through the week.

About 'old' biltong that's dried out too much. Does anyone else put it in the microwave for 15s. It cooks through, goes all crispy on the edges and is delicious. Not as good as good wet biltong in its prime, but better than eating the old scraps.

These people.

Know them as i've bought from them at events and ordered online. Really, really good quality and some bonkers flavours.
Also do wholesale.

Find a dehydrator and make your own jerky. You need the dehydration for it to work properly and it is V easy once you have the right kit. I had one for years and made loads of beef jerky, dried fruits & veg when they were on sale etc.
Biltong is a different beast with the vinegar curing. As said above, a biltong box is pretty easy to make and use.
