MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Jim Broadbent in my mind is one of the finest actors we have, but the number one actor we have for sheer presence I'd have to say John Simm.
Who are yours, and why?
TV
Film
Stage
I've not seen a bad performance by Gary Oldman yet.
Robert Hardy
Christopher Ecclestone
Pete Postlethwaite
Lewis Collins.
End of thread.
John Simm? Robert Hardy? Biggest OVER-actors maybe.
The guy who plays the consultant in Casualty - you know - who had the gambling problem - no, it was Holby City. Same difference. Anyway, yes, that guy. I always feel like he could go on to be a screen legend.
Has to be Brian Blessed
Paddy Considine
Good shouts for Jim Broadbent and Christopher Ecclestone
John Simm is pants IMO
Stephen Fry in the Black Adder series.
Anyone with the surname Kemp belongs in this thread. They're all fantastic.
Steven Berkoff
Patrick Stewart
Richard Griffiths
(I like the Shakespearean types!)
Paddy Considine +1
Patrick Stewart is a god amongst men.
Sheridan Smith's breasts in Two pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.
I saw Jean Luc Picard and Gandalf together in Waiting For Godot last year. They were superb.
Must be the finest of British actoors. Plenty of spit flying that night.
Paul McGann is brilliant. Not in enough films imo.
I'd extend that to all the McGann brothers. Hollywood should come up with a vehicle for their talent.
.
Helen Mirren? or this exclusively for men?
Lacey Turner
Sir Anthony Hopkins
Russ Abbot (Widdow T****y, Blackpool Apollo, 1995)
+1 Paddy Considine
Ben Kingsley
That bloke from the wire and Luther is turning into a petty good TV actor
oh, how could i forget, Danny Dyer is my number 1, he's so versatile
Pete Postlethwait
Brian Cox
oo oo Liam Neeson is a bit of a dude too.
Oh yes - what Hora said.
Brian Cox - What, floppy haired science guy? No way...

He's really a 60+ overweight grumpy bloke. Now that's acting skill!
I feel full of verse, rhyme and song when I see those beauts. Such delight, such life, such joue a vie. I could run amok, ney romp merrily through their creases, their expanse, their sheer bulk and touch.
tim roth
Err no, Brian Cox the bad guy in X-Men and the Bourne films. Saw Sir Ian Mckellen and Sir Patrick Stewart in Waitng For Godot as well. Mackellen blew Stewart off the stage (no, not like that you filthy boy)
What, no Richard E Grant ?
Err no, Brian Cox the bad guy in X-Men and the Bourne films.
Well I never!
Richard E? For what? the Spice Girls Movie?
How can no one have put Hugh Grant forward? 🙄
I always feel like he could go on to be a screen legend.
He was, I think, in one of the Star Wars films. Whether that bestows legendary status, I'm not sure.

Cate Blanchett
Ray Winston surely ... as long as you're looking for an east-end villain of course.
Seriously - Ben Kingsley (FOR : Sexy Beast, Ghandi AGAINST : a number of complete shockers).
Ralph Fiennes has put in some cracking performances.

I hate football but him in the damned united paying brian clough was excellent
Good call - Michael Sheen.
Ok, Withnail... but what else?
The Player, The Age of Innocence (yes, there are some real stinkers in there, but Paul McGann's CV is not much better.)
Albert Finney
+ 1 for Paddy Considine, but a mention must go to his supporting actor in Dead Mans Shoes - Toby Kebbel.
Always liked Robert Carlyle too.
Really surprised no one has mentioned him so far!
OK so I know he is from Dublin but for me it has to be
Michaeln Gambon
His parents even moved to Mornington Crescent when he was 5 to help in the rebuilding of London
Just look at the stuff he's been in 😀
and Michael Caine?
Tim Roth and Gary Oldman. Great actors. Very good together as well.
David Threlfall – Frank Gallagher/Shameless
Trevor Eve - Waking the Dead
Dominic West - Det. James 'Jimmy' McNulty/The Wire
Daniel Day-Lewis !!!!
Miranda Richardson
David Thewlis
and yes, Ronnie Barker is a great call - watch Porridge all over again, the timing and the empathy you feel for the character, the pathos between the gags is beautiful
"Broadsword calling Danny boy Broadsword calling Danny boy"
Richard Burton
Ronnie Barker's a good shout when you consider the stuff he's been in. He crops up in a lot of old films, too.
Dear old Dickie Attenborough.
David Hayman.
John Simm.
Christopher Ecclestone.
Emily Watson.
Judi Dench.
Andy Serkis.
All the teachers in the Harry Potter films - it's like a who's who.
Timothy Spall
Robert Lindsay
Derek Jacobi
Belinda Blythin
Stephen Graham ftw
By far the best of the current crop
Anyone mentioned Julie Walters yet?
Not sure why, but Derek Jacobi makes my skin crawl.
Probs he wouldn't like me much either , but hey ho.
